Bro. James R. Walker, 91, of Benton, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 27.Â
He was born on July 12, 1920 in Ouachita, to the late George and Kate (Key) Walker.
Bro. Walker served as pastor at First Assembly of God in Benton for 16 years and later served as pastor at Otter Creek Assembly of God for 30 years. Â He was a WWII Army Veteran and loved to fish and hunt.Â
Eugene Southworth, 87, of Malvern, passed away Dec. 28.
He was born May 30, 1924Â in Paron to the late Dick and Norme Burnett Southworth.Â
Eugene was of the Assembly of God faith.Â
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Eleanor Southworth.Â
He is survived by his son, Richard Southworth of Malvern; daughters, Diann Galloway of Malvern, Kathy Norwood and Tina Benton both of Benton; step sons, Otis, Howard and Ray Nerghbors; and eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.Â
Ashton Lee Hobbs, 6 of Benton, flew to heaven on Dec. 27, to be with Jesus.Â He was born August 13, 2005 to N. Pradhan and Felisity Light Powell.Â Ashton loved the mountains of Wyoming, loved to fly and playing with his puppy Dragon Lady.Â Ashton was also fond of Mary Ann Durham whom he referred to as Granny and Merlene Wegner as Mimi.Â
He is preceded in death by his grandmothers, Marian Hulsey of Benton and Dorothy Hobbs of Malvern and his older brother, Randy Hobbs of Hot Springs.
Melvin R. Burks, 82, of Benton, went to be with the Lord on Dec. 26.Â He was born on April 11, 1929, in Adamsville, Tennessee.
In 1947, at the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he achieved rank of Master Chief Petty Officer. In this role he was a forecaster at the U.S. Naval Weather Service unit, issuing weather briefings to all departing pilots.
John D. Parish, Jr., of Sheridan, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 27, at home at the age of 72. He was born August 1, 1939 in Greenwood, Mississippi, the son of the late John D. Parish, Sr. And Emma Dennis Moore Parish. John was a graduate of Mississippi State University and a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. A lifelong Presbyterian, John was serving as an Elder at the Central Presbyterian Church in Pine Bluff.
Hazel Viola Greer Stroud, 88, of Benton died Monday, Dec. 26, at Ridgewood Health Center.Â She was born on April 16, 1923 in Bauxite,Â to the late George T. and Julia Greer.Â Mrs. Stroud was a homemaker and a member of West Bauxite Missionary Baptist Church.Â She was also preceded in death by her husband, B. L. Stroud, five brothers, and two sisters.
She is survived by one son, Jerry Greer and wife Janice of Traskwood; step-son Larry D. Stroud and wife Missy of Little Rock; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Fred Ann â€śButtonâ€ť Jackson, 63, of Traskwood, passed away Sunday, Dec. 25. She was born May 16, 1948 in Traskwood to the late Fred Dudley Jackson, and Minnie Jane Stuckey Jackson.Â Button was a graduate of Glen Rose High School, and a retired nurse.Â She was also a member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, where she played the piano every Sunday.
She is preceded in death by parents, three sons, Kevin, Darren, and Paul McCutcheon; one sister, Mary Smart, and one nephew, Steve Weir.Â
Dean Lampkin, 75, of Benton, passed away Saturday, Dec. 24.Â He was born October 9, 1936 in Danville.Â Mr. Lampkin was in sales and a member of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church.Â He was preceded in death by his parents, Austin and Eula Lampkin; two brothers, Lavon â€śVonâ€ť Lampkin and T. C. Lampkin and a sister, Levoy Lampkin.
Charles Nathan Garrett, age 82, of Springdale, passed away Friday, Dec. 23, 2011.Â He was born in Saline County, Arkansas on Feb. 15 in the year 1929.Â
Nathan was the firstborn child of Charles Dewey and Alberta Johnson Garrett.Â
Â He loved hunting and fishing and was an instructor for hunter safety with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.Â
After retiring from the Arkansas Highway Department in 1987, Nathan became active in â€śCampers on Missionâ€ť and Arkansas Disaster Relief.Â He was a longtime member of Life Line Baptist Church in Little Rocks.Â
Linda Darlene Woods, age 65, of Bauxite passed away Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011.Â She was born Aug. 7, 1946 in Bonham, Texas, to Sam E. Cockrill and Violet Lorene Cockrill.
Mrs. Woods was a physicianâ€™s assistant and a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Benton.
