Dorothy Ditzig of Benton died peacefully on July 8, 2013 at Saline Memorial Hospice. She was 79 and had lived at Fox Ridge Senior Living for several years.
She was a member of Holland Chapel Baptist Church in Benton.
Willie O. Shelnut, 86, of Benton died July 8, 2013.
She was born April 15, 1927, in Delight to the late Mate and Mettie Pipkins. She retired from the Benton Services Center and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Hershel A. Shelnut; one son, Russell A. Shelnut; four brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by a son, Dowayne Shelnut and wife Diane of Benton; three grandsons, Eric Shelnut and wife Stacye, Kirk Shelnut and Jason Shelnut; and eight great-grandchildren.
On Saturday, July 6, 2013, Darrell L. Ray, 74, passed from this world to the next. He was born on Nov. 30, 1938 in, San Francisco, Calif.
Darrell was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Germany during the early 1960s. In 1991, he retired as a successful building contractor. He loved golf and bowling. He once had a hole-in-one and a 300 game in the same week. He was a Senior All Star Bowler of the year in 1998.
James Timothy â€śTimâ€ť Collins, age 57, passed away in his home in Hot Springs, Arkansas July 4, 2013.Â He was born January 30, 1956 in Little Rock, Arkansas to George and Doris Collins.Â Tim was a member of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church.Â He established Wendyâ€™s in Southern Texas and was a previous owner of Backyard Burgers.Â Tim also worked for Harley Davidson and loved selling and riding motorcycles.Â He was preceded in death by his father, George Collins and his grandmother, Thomasene Caple.Â
Thomas Allen Baxley, 77, a lifelong resident of the Sardis community, died Saturday, July 6, 2013, with his family by his side.
He was born in Sardis on Oct. 20, 1935, to the late Milton and Eula Pruett Baxley.Â He graduated from Sheridan High School in 1954 and then began a lifelong career in the furniture manufacturing business.
He was a member of the Fairview Missionary Baptist Church in Sardis.
Calvin Douglas Phillips, 101, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2013, in Mena.
He was born Oct. 21, 1911, in Lillie, La., to the late David Mathew Phillips and the late Sarah Martindale Phillips. He was a longtime resident of El Dorado, a veteran and a supervisor for Monsanto Chemical for many years.
Calvin was a loving father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend to all who knew and loved him.Â He will be dearly missed by all.
Lane Andrew Huie was born in Little Rock on January 28, 1986 to Casey Andrew Huie and Darla Southern Huie.Â Lane passed away on July 4, 2013 in Little Rock due to injuries he sustained in an automobile accident.Â
Lane graduated from Benton High School where he played football. He attended the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He served as General Manager at the family-owned restaurant, Dizzyâ€™s Gypsy Bistro.
Edgar E. Johnston, 69, of Haskell passed away Friday, July 5, 2013. at the Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock.
He was born Sept. 9, 1943 in Ogdensburg, N.Y., to the late J. Edgar and Marjorie Stevenson Johnston.
Ed had retired after working 33 years for Entergy. He also worked for H & R Block as a tax preparer. He grew up on a dairy farm, picked up the nickname â€śPeanutâ€ť and was a state wrestling champ at one time.
Gary Gene Pitts, 78, of Bauxite passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2013.
He was born July 23, 1934, in Benton to the late Luther Wesley and Winnie Moore Pitts. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Benton and retired from Arkansas Face Veneer Co. after 29 years. Gary loved camping, Nascar, the Razorbacks and his two dogs, Jack and Jill.
Gary was preceded in death by his brother, Billy Bob Pitts.Â Â
Dianne Marie Beadle, 63, of Benton died Saturday, June 29, 2013.
She was born Feb. 7, 1950, to Helen (McKune) Roth and the late Robert Joseph Roth.Â
She was also preceded in death by husbands Franklin Dee Burkett and Robert Lawrence Beadle; and a sister, Donna May Roth.Â
She is survived by her children, Kevin Curtis Burkett, Chris Annette Beason, Steven Matthew Burkett and Brittany Dawn Beadle; her brothers, James Roth and Robert â€śBobâ€ť Roth; and her grandchildren, Clint Curtis Burkett, Marina Sharayah Bolin, Andreanna â€śAndiâ€ť Lee Allen and Carissa Cadence Burkett.
