Jacob Stanley Lea

Jacob Stanley Lea, 61, of Malvern, passed away Dec. 16, 2013.  He was born Jan. 31, 1952, in Red Springs, N.C., to W.J. Lea Jr. and Geraldine Shook Lea.
Jacob was a member of Geyer Springs First Baptist Church in Little Rock.
He is survived by his parents; two sons, Joshua David Lea (Dara) of Oklahoma City and Aaron Marshall Brandon Lea of Malvern; a daughter, Katherine Alexandra Lea of Benton; two brothers, Dr. Allen Kyle Lea (Tammy) of Springfield, Mo., and the Rev. Jay Carter Lea (Lisa) of Benton; and a sister, Andrea Karen Scallion of Conway.

Linda Sue Thornbrugh

Linda Sue Thornbrugh, 65, of Alexander passed from this life on Dec. 16, 2013, with her family by her side. Linda was born April 7, 1948, in Little Rock to her parents, Alvin and Elsie Puckett.
She enjoyed her time reading, playing bingo and sewing and loved to make things for her friends and family. Her greatest love, however, was spending time with her family. She was a loving wife and mother.
Mrs. Thornbrugh was preceded in death by her father and two daughters. Patricia Diane Meeks and Margeret Bearden. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Gloria Williams.

Loraine Jackson Tatum

Loraine Jackson Tatum of Benton died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013.  She was born March 24, 1934 in Traskwood to Clara Ashley Jackson and the late Charlie S. Jackson, who was killed in a car/train accident on Sept. 4, 1933, in Camden. 
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, L.M. Tatum. 

Melba Rose McCarroll

Melba Rose McCarroll, 78, of Alexander passed away on Dec. 15, 2013, with her family by her side. She enjoyed going to flea markets and loved to travel and work in her yard.
Melba was preceded in death by her brothers, Hollis and Eldon Pickard.

Michael 'Mike' Hammett Pittman

Michael “Mike” Hammett Pittman, 49, of Longview, Texas, died unexpectedly Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at his residence in Longview. He was born in Memphis, Tenn., on Nov. 6, 1964, to the late Sam Allen and Sarah Gray (Bernhard) Pittman.
Mike served in the U.S. Marine Corps and worked for Faith Communications. Mike loved playing the guitar, enjoyed motorcycle riding, hunting, fishing and watching his favorite sports teams, especially with his nieces and nephews.

Eddie L. Price Curtis

Eddie L. Price Curtis, 91, of Benton passed away Dec. 15, 2013.  She was born June 6, 1922, in Cato, to the late Edgar and Theresa Matchett Price.
Eddie was a longtime member of Highway Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Orvist Curtis; a son, Mason Curtis; a daughter, Mickey Lynn Curtis; his parents, Edgar and Theresa Price; his brother, Sam Price; and his sisters, Melba Brock and Ovine Goodman.

Roy Oxenrider

An angel visited Roy Oxenrider, 81, of Bryant and escorted him to Heaven on Dec. 15, 2013. 
He was the founder of Royal Plumbing, Heating and Air Inc. 
Roy was a member of the Chosin Few National Inc. and a life member of the Army Chapter Chosin Few.  He served 13 years on the Board of Directors, representing his unit at Chosin, 1st Battalion 32nd Infantry, 7th Division, 10th Corps. Ill health forced him to refuse the last nomination. He was a member of the Purple Heart Association and The Queen’s Own 32nd Infantry Association, serving several years as quartermaster.

Minnie Lea Green

Minnie Lea Green (Minnielee or Minn to her family and friends), 81, of Benton, went to be with her heavenly father on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013.  She was born April 23, 1932, in Bruno, the only girl of three children, to her parents, Roy Ferdinand and Vera Myrtle Oglesby.

Anita (Love bug) A.Thornberry (Quick), 29, of Benton passed away suddenly on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013. She was born Jan. 1, 1984, in Pataskala, Ohio.
She will be greatly missed. She was such a loving mother, sister and daughter. She enjoyed the outdoors and loved camping, fishing and baking. She was full of joy and great with her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles D. Quick.

Dr. Howard A. Nobles

Dr. Howard A. Nobles, 71, of Benton passed away Dec. 15, 2013.
He was born July 6, 1942. in El Dorado to Henry Arthur and Helen (Woods) Nobles Jr.  He was a Navy Veteran, a member of First Baptist Church of Benton, and held bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in education from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
He was  an educator in Benton and a member and past president of the Poets’ Roundtable.  He also authored three books of poetry – "Poems from a Baseball Fan," "Lost in Limerick Land" and "Cincinnati, Chicago and Other Places."
