Martha â€śMartyâ€ť Yancey Edmondson, 78, of Alexander, passed away on March 10, 2014 at Saline Memorial Hospital. She was born Dec. 19, 1935, in Vilonia to the late Barty and Della (Lewellen) Yancey.
Martha worked in food service management and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Eugene Edmondson; a brother; Joe Yancey; and a sister; Wilma Reed.
Thelma Faye Batson, 83, of Little Rock, recently of Malvern, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 9, 2014.
Thelma was born Jan. 17, 1931, to E.V. and Birdie Graham Clark in Dalton, Texas, near Ennis.
First and foremost, Thelma was a devout believer in her Lord Jesus Christ. In her years of high school she was captain of the cheerleaders in Ennis and enjoyed many friends while growing up there.
Robert F. â€śBobâ€ť Roberts, 76, of Benton died Sunday, March 9, 2014.
Bob was born Aug., 15, 1937, to the late Paul Best and Willie Mae Moore Roberts of Beebe. Bob served in the U.S. Air Force.
He graduated from Arkansas State Teachers College (now University of Central Arkansas) with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry.
Hazel E. Lane, 88, of Benton passed away Sunday, March 9, 2014.Â
She was born Oct. 18, 1925, in Hazen to the late Clarence Henry and Gertie Lee Wallace Hudson.
Hazel worked at Gingles Department Store in Benton for more than 40 years, was a member of the Benton Business and Professional Women's Club for 40-plus year and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.Â
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Louis Lane; a daughter, Vicky Lane; a brother, Troy Hudson; and a sister, Nadene Harmon.
Johnnie Ruth Sossamon, 81, of Benton, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2014.Â She was born Nov. 14, 1932, in Benton.Â
Mrs. Sossamon worked at Smith-Caldwell Drug Store and was a lifetime member of Salem United Methodist Church.Â
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Wesley â€śPeteâ€ť and Lura Ruth Bray.
Verlon Scott Cole Carroll, 92, of Benton, formerly of Russellville, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2014.
She was born March 22, 1921 in Pope County.Â
Mrs. Carroll retired from International Shoe Co. and was a member of New Life Missionary Baptist Church.Â
She was preceded in death by her parents, T N (Neal) and Lela Richardson Cole; her husband, Sherman H. Carroll; a brother, Troy Cole; and two half-sisters, Polly Maggard and Betty Jane Cronister.
Lois C. Rumsey Baker, 83, of Benton was welcomed to her heavenly home on Wednesday, March 5, 2014. Lois was born April 30, 1930. She was raised in Moberly, MO. where she graduated from Moberly High School. She raised her family moving throughout the country until she finally settled in Benton. She married Carol Baker of Benton, in 1982 and together they served the Lord both at Foursquare Church and at Living Waters Church that they stared until his death in 1996. She then carried on her Christian walk as a member of Faith Fellowship of Benton.
Irwin Elson Barger, 92, of Benton passed away March 5, 2014.Â He was born June 27, 1921 in Nettleton, to the late Freeman S. and Bertha Sawyers Barger.
Irwin served in the U.S. Army during World War II.Â He was a member of the Highway 5 Church of Christ and held a license in real estate and brokerage.
Irwin was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Bruce Barger; three brothers and three sisters.
Paul Richard McLeod, 60, went to his heavenly home on Monday, March 3, 2014. He was born to the Rev. Sidney Dexter and Leota Lucille Palmer McLeod in Magnolia.
He was a graduate of Benton High School and Pulaski Technical HVAC College. He was the owner of Bittner-McLeod Refrigeration, an avid golfer, and a devoted member of East Union Missionary Baptist Church. He enjoyed his many friends and colleagues and always had a joke and a smile for everyone.
He was preceded in death by his mother; and his brother, Johnnie Lee McLeod.Â
Larry Lain Crocker, 74, of Benton passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at the VA Hospital in Little Rock.
He was born May 21, 1939 in Titusville, Pa., to the late William Lewis and LuClaire Hollabaugh Crocker.
Larry was a member of New Summitt Church of God and owner of Popploâ€™s Pizza.Â He served 10 years with the U.S. Air Force.Â Larry retired from a food management position with the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Diane Sue Crocker; a daughter, Carla Hollinger; a brother, Bill Crocker; and a sister, Betty Akins.
