Shon Zachary Smith

Shon Zachary Smith, 18, of Sheridan died Monday, July 25. He was born March 16, 1993, in Little Rock to Charles “Chuck†Smith and Misty Alynn Schultz. Shon attended Glen Rose High School and also Little Creek Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and anything that involved the outdoors. Shon also enjoyed skateboarding and playing his Xbox. He always had a smile on his face and loved making people laugh.

Charlotte Jan Treat

Charlotte Jan Treat, 56, of Benton, passed from this life on Saturday, July 23, in Searcy County. She was born in Amarillo, Texas on January 14, 1955, to Willie Amel Smithee and Mary Charlotte (Tunnell) Smithee.
Jan worked as a blood bank supervisor at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock and Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock. She had also worked as a medical technician at Saline Memorial Hospital in Benton for over 10 years. Jan was a loving mother, wife and sister and will be greatly missed.
Her parents and one brother, Bill Smithee, preceded her in death.

Mattie “Ethel†Beck

Mattie “Ethel†Beck, 76, of Benton went to heaven on July 25. She was born on March 18, 1935, to the late, Clyde and Pauline Brown in Benton. Mrs. Beck was a loving mother, grandmother and friend. She loved spending time with her family and being a homemaker. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Ethel is preceded in death by her husband, Dewell “Bob†Beck, her parents, and a great grandson, Joseph Perryman.

Gilbert Paul Morgan

Gilbert Paul Morgan, 58, of Benton passed away Monday, July 25. He was born April 22, 1953, in Star City to Houston Randall Morgan and Venie (Williams) Morgan. He was a transportation broker and owned his own transportation company. He was ordained a deacon for the Diocese of Little Rock in December 2002 and served as deacon at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Benton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James Morgan and Wilbur Morgan.

Rev. James E. Cody

The Rev. James E. Cody, 74, of Benton died Saturday, July 23, in Little Rock. He was born January 26, 1937, in Pine Bluff. James was a Church of God minister and a member of Little Rock Church of God. He was preceded in death by his father Carl Cody.

James Olean Ramsey

James Olean Ramsey, 88, of Benton passed away Wednesday, July 20, at Saline Hospice House in Bryant.  He was born on August 15, 1922 in Mt. Pleasant, TN to the late James Marshall and Willie Mae Henson Ramsey.  Mr. Ramsey was a member of Holland Chapel Baptist Church and had worked in maintenance for the Arkansas Highway Department.  In addition to his parents, his wife, Cozy Ramsey and one sister, Lilly Whitmire also preceded him in death.

Thomas Fredrick Wood, 66, of Benton, passed away Tuesday, July 19. He was born February 10, 1945, in Caldwell, Kan. to the late Eugene and Aline Wood. Mr. Wood was a U.S. Army veteran, a retired federal employee and also managed Orvis Shape. He was a charter member of Arkansas Fly Fishers Federation of Fly Fishermen, past master of Westwood No. 353 which is now Mary Williams, 32nd Degree Mason, an eagle scout leader and a member of the Eastern Star, York Rite and the Shriners.

Dixie Lee Ragland Nichols

Dixie Lee Ragland Nichols, 74, of Benton died Monday, July 18. She was born February 19, 1937, in Pine Bluff to the late Leroy Edwin “Chick†and Hazel Jewell Morris Ragland. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Bryant. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Fred Nichols and her sister, Frances Orman.

Florence Brown, 94, of Little Rock passed away on July 19.
Mrs. Brown is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Brown, her parents, Guy and Coddie Bunt; one brother, Ernest Bunt; and two sisters, Thelma Wittenberg and Roselee Phillips.
She is survived by her loving son, Bobby Brown and many nieces, nephews and friends who all loved her and will miss her dearly.
A funeral service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Dial and Dudley Funeral Home in Bryant. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

James Wesley Gardner, 72, of Benton passed away Monday, July 18. He was born September 1, 1938, in Perry County. Mr. Gardner retired from Reynolds Metal after 35 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Gladys Gardner; sister, Laura Bettis; and two brothers, Harold and Wiley Gardner.
He is survived by his son, Wesley Gardner; two daughters, Carol Childs and husband, Eddie and Linda Hyde; and brother, John Gardner all of Benton; sister, June Pendergrass of Rogers; three grandchildren, Lauren Hyde, Cody Childs and Will Gardner and his special friend, Earla Gardner.
