Virgil (Bud) O. Shelton, 73, of Benton, passed away Friday, August 5.Â He was born June 26, 1938 in Benton, to the late Virgil Henry and Nellie Marie Shelton.Â
He retired from Alcoa and was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Shelton was a U.S. Marine serving in the Korean War and the Bay of Pigs.The following newspaper account described the latter experience:Â
Miryah Jo Rowland, 17, of Benton passed on Thursday, August 4.Â Miryah was born August 13, 1993 in Little Rock.Â She is preceded in death by her father Scott Rowland and grandfather Travis Rowland.
Â Â Â Â Survivors include her mother Jennifer Bradley, grandmothers Cathy Eichler and Janet Stamper; her great-grandparents Regina Duckett and J.E. and Clarice Fields, also by her devoted boyfriend and companion Kris Zumwalt, great aunt Trudy Sher, and along with a host of family and friends that will miss her dearly.
Max Theodore Linz resident of Bryant, died Saturday August 6, at Saline Memorial Emergency Room at the age of 81. Max was born May 8 1930 in North Little Rock, parents Clarence Linz and Bessie Griebel. December 24, 1949 he was married to Flora Patrick of Bauxite. He served 48 years with the Union Pacific Railway. He enjoyed tending the yard, flowers and pool and always put the needs of his children and grandchildren first. Private devoted taxi driver he would always chauffer grandchildren to school, dance, gymnastics or band.
John Darrell Fee, 60 of Little Rock, died Saturday, August 6, at St. Vincentâ€™s Arkansas Hospice. He was born on April 14, 1951 in Lawton, Oklahoma to his parentâ€™s Lawrence Alfred Fee and Ruby Lee Hayes. John was a veteran of the United States Army having served in Vietnam receiving two Purple Hearts, the Silver Star, the Combat Infantry badge, received the Peace Medal from the Republic of Vietnam and was a member of the 173rd Airborne. In addition, he enjoyed fishing, camping and riding motorcycles and was of the Catholic Faith.
Alice Mildred Reid, 82, of Benton, passed away Sunday August 7, in Booneville. She was born November 5, 1928 in Magazine, to Roy Guy and Sara Edith (Forkum) McGhee.
She was a retired pharmacy clerk at Westside Pharmacy in Benton and a homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Magazine.
She is preceded in death by a infant son Richard Allen Reid.
She is survived by one daughter, Alicia Lynn Reid of Janesville, Wisconsin and one son Kenneth Blake Reid of Bee Branch.
Marlyn K. Dodge, 85, of Benton, passed away August 2.Â Â She was born January 23, 1926 in Cambridge, Wisconsin to the late John and Betsy Kaare.Â Marlyn was a volunteer for CJCOHN and Saline Memorial Hospice.Â She was a member of the TOPS group in Benton and attended Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in North Little Rock.Â Marlyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jay Dodge and brother Elvin Kaare.
Survivors, son, John Dodge, daughter, Patty Gordon and husband, Doug of Massachusetts.
Richard Â Swenson, 78, of Benton, passed away Wednesday, August 3, at Ridgewood Nursing Home.Â He was born on October 20, 1932 in Rockford, IL to the late Harold and Stella Swenson.Â Mr. Swenson was a parts manager for a motorcycle dealership.Â
Survivors include his wife, Lois Swenson of Benton, one son, Brian Swenson and wife Sonya of Benton, two daughters, Joyce Ogden of Berryville and Rita Pierce of Malvern, 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

Effie Louise Altom Bullock, 94, of North Little Rock, passed away Wednesday, August 3. She was the youngest of 8 and was born June 11, 1917 in Hickory Flat, Arkansas to John Alex Altom and Valula Day Pearson. She married J. R. Bullock on April 2, 1944.
She retired from JC Penneyâ€™s as a sales associate after 10 years. She loved to read and her hobbies were sewing, arts and crafts, painting and quilting. She was a member of Highland Heights Baptist Church in Benton and a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Pangburn Chapter No. 502.
Mark Devoe Jackson, 83, of Haskell, went to join his Heavenly Father on August 1.Â He was born on May 31, 1928 to the late Howell and Lillian Jackson in McJester.Â Â He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Mark Edwin Jackson and brothers, James and Boyce Jackson.Â
George Edward â€śEdâ€ť Talbert, 86, of Benton, died Sunday, July 31, 2011 at Saline Memorial Hospice in Bryant. He was born August 24, 1924 to Walter Edward and Bertha Inez (Sorrells) Talbert. He retired from Southwestern Bell telephone company in 1986 after 39 years of service. He was a member of Lifeline Baptist Church, The Gideons International, and was a Mason. He was a Navy veteran having served in WWII and the Korean War; sailing around the world twice.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Norma Jean (Smith) Talbert, the mother of his children.
