Cletis Fortner

April 7, 2014

Cletis Fortner, age 79, of Benton, passed away Friday, April 4, 2014.  He was born Sept. 6, 1934, in Jonesboro, La. 
Mr. Fortner was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from AT&T after 30 years. 
He attended Gravel Hill Baptist Church and was a volunteer firefighter for the Crows Station Fire Department.
Mr. Fortner was preceded in death by his parents, Arley and Vivian Fortner; ta win brother, Cline Fortner; and two other brothers, Johnny and James Fortner.

Joseph Louis 'Joe' Benson

Joseph Louis "Joe" Benson, 66, of Fort Smith entered into rest on Friday, March 7, 2014, in Fort Smith. He was born July 24, 1947 in Heavener, Okla.
He is survived by four sisters, Jean Rankins of Houston, Texas, Betty Bird of Little Rock, Bessie Halpaine of Benton and Gloria Cochran of Little Rock; and two brothers, Kenneth Benson of Bearden and Gary Benson of Bearden.
A memorial service for Joe will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, April 7, at Lighthouse Church of Benton in Benton.
Lewis Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Ann B. Johnson

Mrs. Ann B. Johnson, 73, of Salem, Ore., formerly of Benton, went to be with her heavenly Father on April 3, 2014.
Ann was born Sept. 28, 1940, and was a retired purchasing agent for the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department.
She was a member of Capital Baptist Church in Salem. She loved playing cards and domino games with her husband, children, grandchildren and friends. She loved to read, especially espionage and mystery novels.

Noel Clinton Akins

Noel Clinton Akins of Benton passed away March 17, 2014. 
Born in Seattle, Wash., on May 3, 1958, Noel worked for the past 10 years at Metropolitan National Bank in Little Rock as an Internet banking specialist.
He demonstrated a commitment to excellence and a caring spirit with his customers and co-workers, always willing to patiently help them with his knowledge and expertise.
Noel went above and beyond, lending his passion for programming to community organizations such as Arkansas Commitment.
Noel enjoyed the guitar and photography and cared deeply about animals.

Margaret Biggs Athy

Margaret Biggs Athy passed from the world into heaven on April 3, 2014. She was born to loving parents Horace E. and Lynda Mae McNeely Biggs on April 13,1929, in Scott.
Margaret had a very vibrant personality and enjoyed working with her hands, from knitting beautiful argyle socks for her husband and tiny Barbie clothing, to tirelessly stitching the many colorful quilts she made.

William Donald Hilborn

William Donald Hilborn, 78, of Troy, Mo., died March 5. 2014, after a three-week hospitalization related to complications from diabetes and heart disease.
He was born June 2, 1935, in Smackover, to William Stephen Hilborn and Ade Roselee Cliff Hilborn.

Celly Angelique (Avrard) Scarbrough, 37, of Bauxite passed away April 3, 2014. She was born March 25, 1977 in Ste. Saint Marie, Mich..
Celly is remembered as a free spirit, who enjoyed living life to its fullest. She was certified as a behavioral specialist; however, her true passion was serving customers as a waitress.
Celly was preceded in death by her father, Carlos Thane Avrard; her stepfather, Louis Scarbrough; a stepbrother, George W. Craig, Jr.; and her grandparents, William Presley Lamb, Carl Avrard and Rita Avrard.

Richard Ethan Miller

Richard Ethan Miller, 18, of Benton, left this world to be with his Lord on April 1, 2014. He was born in Little Rock, on February 21, 1996 and was a senior at Bryant High School. Ethan’s happiness, good-humor, and love of Christ, family, and friends are tenants of his legacy. A stranger to no one, a shoulder to lean on, and a hug when you needed it were just a small part of his true being. He enjoyed the outdoors, music, friends, and making ropes at work. But as everyone who knew Ethan, it was his sparkling eyes of care, heart of love, and huge smile of kindness that will be missed.

Ronnie 'Smut' Smith

Ronnie “Smut” Smith, 67, of Benton met his savior Tuesday, April 2, 2014, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock in the presence of his loving family.
He was born May 20, 1946, in Little Rock to the late Bill and Francis Louise Smith and worked as a pump packer for Alcoa. 
He is survived by his wife Dorothy; a son, Shane Smith; a daughter, Pepper Hobby (Nathan); and his beautiful granddaughter, Allie Raine Hobby, all of Benton. Ronnie is also survived by a sister, Wanda Kaiser of Kemah, Texas, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Horace 'Butch' Jones Jr.

Horace “Butch” Jones Jr., 44, of Benton passed away March 31, 2014. He was born Dec. 25, 1969, to the late Horace O. Jones Sr. and Lorella Carol Jones.
He is survived by his sisters, Rella Sanders and Stephany Alhajjaj, and a brother, Fred Jones.
He also is survived by his nieces and nephews, Kayla Mitchell, Jenna Jones, Janelle Sanders, Jebry Alhajjaj, Timmy Sanders, Layla Alhajjaj, Ramsey Alhajjaj, and Ally Alhajjaj. Also surviving are his aunts and uncles, Marvis Hankins, Jan Leal, Pat Scott, Donald Wills, Pixie Wiggs, Deri Wills, Dennis Wills, Gina Gilmore and Barbara Hines.
