Powell B. Brown, 86, of Benton, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 25.Â He was born July 24, 1925, in Frisco City, Ala., to the late RobertÂ and Mamie Brown.Â
Powell was a 30-year veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving during World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War. Powell was a member of Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Gloria Mae Brown; two brothers and five sisters.
Jeremie Brent Harrell, 35, passed from this life on Jan. 20. He was born Aug. 1, 1976 in Little Rock.
He is survived by his wife, Melonie Harrell; three stepchildren; Damion West, Haley Nance and Raistlin Diebel; his mother, Vickie York of Franklin; a sister, Karmen Harrell of Franklin; a brother, Eric Fouth of Calico Rock; and his close friends, Albert Lee, Dennis King and Mike Farrow, as well as many other friends and family members who loved him and will miss him greatly.
Brent loved playing the guitar and working on cars.
A private service will be held.
Bonnie Jean Smith, 85, a resident of Benton, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 24.Â She was born Jan. 25, 1926, in Little Rock to the late Dewitt Talmadge Pool and the late Minnie Lee Bettis.
Bonnie loved to plant flowers at her house for many years.Â She was a member of Highland Heights Baptist Church.Â
She was preceded in death by her husband, A.L. Smith; and two sons, Larry Wayne Buster and Ronnie Hollingshead.Â
Ronald Allen Prince, 53, of North Little Rock passed away Jan. 23, after a long and brave battle with diabetes and cancer. He was born Feb. 18, 1958 in Little Rock. From an early age, Ron displayed talents both creative and entrepreneurial which would serve him well throughout his life. As a boy, he wrote, edited and published The Arnold Street News, a neighborhood newspaper that also contained ads for Ronâ€™s other enterprises â€“ neighborhood plays and eight millimeter film shows for which he would charge admission and serve refreshments.
William Brian Hampton, 50, of Benton passed away Tuesday, Jan. 24, at his home.Â He was born May 30, 1961, in Fort Smith to William Burke and Demo Lee (Stephenson) Hampton.
He graduated from Benton High School in 1979 and was a 1984 graduate of University of Central Arkansas, where he was member of Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity. He attended Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church in Benton, was a member of the First Christian Church of Benton, and also attended the First Nazarene Church of Benton.
Mr. Hampton previously was employed at Benton State Bank.
Margaret Ann Young Nelson, 73, of Haskell, passed away Monday, Jan. 23.Â She was born October 19, 1938, in Sand Springs, Oklahoma, a daughter of Bennie Tapley Young and Helen Mathis Young Brown.Â She was a wonderful mother, homemaker, and member of Victory Baptist Church in Haskell.
She was preceded in death by a son Frank Nelson.
She is survived by her husband Ray A. Nelson of Haskell; son, Bennie Steven Nelson of Benton; daughters, Rayann Barry of Little Rock, and Susan Hanscom of Benton; sister, Judy Stearman of Little Rock; eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.Â
Michael â€śMickeyâ€ť Morphis, 62, of Benton passed away on Jan. 23, with his family by his side.Â Mickey was born on January 31, 1949 to the late, Hays and Donella Morphis in North Little Rock.Â He served in the Marine Corp. where he received a purple heart.Â Mr. Morphis enjoyed hunting, fishing, guns and the military.Â His greatest joys were time spent with his loving wife, children and grandchildren.Â He was a member of Salem Baptist church for over 20 years.Â Mickey worked at Union Pacific Railroad for over 30 years.
Noel Lewis Beard Sr., 75, of Traskwood, passed away Monday, Jan. 23.Â He was born February 24, 1936 in Gurdon.Â Mr. Beard was a U.S. Marine and worked for Middleton Heat and Air for 15 years.Â He was a member of Glen Rose Missionary Baptist Church and the American Legion.Â Mr. Beard was preceded in death by his parents, David and Elsie Faye Beard; his wife of 46 years, JoAnn Beard; two sons, Noel and Bob Beard and a great-grandson, Gregory Lee Beard.
Ruth Ashley, 86, of Benton, died Sunday, Jan. 22.Â She was born Jan. 16, 1926, in Flemingsburg, Ky., to the late Claude and Eunice (Gordon) Mark. Ruth was a member of Jessieville Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Doyle Ashley; four sons, Samuel, Dave, Russell and Glen Coburn; three brothers, Johnny, Cecil and Kenneth Mark; and one sister, Helen Phillips.
Ruby Burkett Henry Dorrell, 77, of Alexander went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 22, at her home. She was born Dec. 14, 1934, in Lonoke, to her late parents, Carlee and Pearl Cooper Burkett.
Ruby was a retired Realtor and had owned her own construction business, R.L. Hays.
She was a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 2256 and was of the Methodist faith. She loved her family and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by one great-grandchild, Ashton Dakota Garrett; one sister, Penny Brown; and one niece, Jenne Brown.
