Anita (Love bug) A.Thornberry (Quick), 29, of Benton passed away suddenly on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013. She was born Jan. 1, 1984, in Pataskala, Ohio.
She will be greatly missed. She was such a loving mother, sister and daughter. She enjoyed the outdoors and loved camping, fishing and baking. She was full of joy and great with her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles D. Quick.
Dr. Howard A. Nobles, 71, of Benton passed away Dec. 15, 2013.
He was born July 6, 1942. in El Dorado to Henry Arthur and Helen (Woods) Nobles Jr.Â He was a Navy Veteran, a member of First Baptist Church of Benton, and held bachelorâ€™s, masterâ€™s and doctoral degrees in education from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
He was Â an educator in Benton and a member and past president of the Poetsâ€™ Roundtable.Â He also authored three books of poetry â€“ "Poems from a Baseball Fan," "Lost in Limerick Land" and "Cincinnati, Chicago and Other Places."
Fredean Cotton 80 of Little Rock passed away on December 13, 2013. She was born on August 31, 1933 to the late, Fred and Fostine Kinzel in East End, Arkansas. Fredean was a wonderful cook and enjoyed making dolls, quilting and working in her yard and garden. Her most treasured times was taking care of her children and grand children. She retired after 33 years from East End Elementary where she was a cook. Mrs. Cotton was a lifetime member of Fairview Missionary Baptist Church.
Verna Mae Loredo, 70, of Bryant has gone to Heaven on Dec. 11, 2013.
She was a beautiful mother of three children, Sonja Carter, Joe Rard and Clint Rard.
She is also survived by her two sisters and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Verna was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jose Loredo; her brother, Jessie; and her sister, Marie.
Her spirit and love of life will live on in our hearts forever.
The family will hold a memorial service at a later date.

Claudie Ray Ollar, 77, of Benton, was born Sept. 10, 1936, and passed away Dec. 11, 2013. He was a member of Highway Church of Christ and retired from the U.S. Navy after 22 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his son, Clifton Eugene Ollar.
Claudie is survived by wife, Sarah Ollar.
He is also survived by his children, Kimbralee (Sam) Riggan of Tull and Lynn Ollar of Benton; his siblings, Betty Louise Ollar Mozisek and Erma Barnett; a grandson, Casey (Kristin) Riggan; and his great-grandchildren, Randi and Declan Riggan.
Elizabeth Lovett â€śBettyâ€ť Valachovic, of Little Rock passed away Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013. She was born Dec. 19, 1925, in Texarkana, the daughter of Paul Eugene and Lela Nelson Lovett. She was married to Ernest Valachovic, Sr., who was a political reporter for the Arkansas Gazette, on June 18, 1944. Ernest died on October 15, 1968, when Betty was only forty-two years old and she never remarried.
Betty has three children: Ernie Valachovic, Jr. and his wife Wanda, of Benton, Pat Crocker and her husband Gary, of Coral Gables, FL, and Carol Bohannan and her husband Terry, of North Little Rock.
Wanda May Cozort Slaton, 83, of Hot Springs passed away Monday, Dec. 9, 2013. She was born April 12, 1930, in Salem, to Oscar Cozort and Audie Bolen Cozort.
Wanda was a member of First Baptist Church of Hot Springs. Wanda sang in the choir at Wilson First Baptist Church for many years where she also taught a Sunday School class for youth. She was a volunteer at National Park Medical Center and volunteered with ESL (English as a Second Language) classes. Her hobbies included playing cards (Canasta and Skip-bo), gardening, and watching her grandsons play ball.
Nettie Ruth Mauldin, 78, of Benton passed away Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013.Â She was born Dec. 19, 1934 in Prattsville, to the late Joe and Nealey Jones Beck.Â Nettie was a member of Highland Heights Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Mauldin; her parents, Joe and Nealey Beck; three brothers; five sisters; and a great-granddaughter, Alex Wright.
Vicki Dorsch, business manager of The Saline Courier, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, at Saline Memorial Hospice House in Bryant following a brief illness. She was 56.
Dorsch began her career at what was then the Benton Courier in 1986 in the newspaper's composing department. She became business manager a number of years later.
Her association with the newspaper had begun as a 10-year-old when she and a friend sold weekly Couriers to make spending money. Their location was the corner of South and Richards streets.
Esther Thompson, 85, of Benton passed away Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at Saline Memorial Hospice House in Bryant.
She was born Sept. 9, 1928, in Shaw to the late Anderson and Carrie Burton Parsons.
Mrs. Thompson was a homemaker and a member of New Friendship Missionary Baptist Church.Â
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her husband, Carl James Thompson; two sons, Douglas and Dwight Thompson; and her brothers and sisters.
