A die-hard fan as many would put it. Imagine your team drafting the best player to ever play his sport in the 13th round with the 402nd pick. You may already know where this is going.
Coming into the 2011 high school basketball season, it was unclear as to how both Harmony Grove teams would perform. The senior girls came in with a ton of senior talent from Morgan Ramsey, Macy Coffee and Torie Simmons. For the boys, they did not look near as good on paper. With fair guard play but lacking size, head coach Richard Moore was not sure exactly how the year would play out.
Benton native Wes Gardner played eight seasons in the major leagues â€” from 1984 to 1991 with the New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, San Diego Padres and Kansas City Royals. Drafted in the 22nd round out of the University of Central Arkansas, Gardner was in the same 1982 Mets' draft class with the likes of Dwight Gooden, Roger McDowell and Rafael Palmeiro.
