The Bauxite Lady Miners scored the first 13 points of the game in a 52-24 win over rival Glen Rose Lady Beavers in the first regular season game of the season on Tuesday at Dawson Gym in Bauxite.
“First game I just didn’t want us to come out a little amped up, not be able to hit any shots or let them stay in for too long,” Bauxite Coach Josh Harrison said. “I felt like if we could get on them quick it could kind of get our butterflies out. We did a good job of that.”
The Bauxite Lady Miners’ basketball team tied for second place in the class 7-4A conference last season, but had a chance to go undefeated in conference play. The Lady Miners (24-6, 10-3 7-4A last year) lost to the team they tied for second with, Malvern, twice by two points, and lost to first-place Pulaski Academy by one. Bauxite then lost to Malvern by two in the semifinals of the conference tournament.
The Sheridan Yellowjackets’ bid to host a first-round playoff game came to an end when they dropped a 28-21 decision to the Arkansas High Razorbacks in Texarkana on Friday night. The Yellowjackets scored 14 points in the final four minutes, but couldn’t get it done in the end.
“Too little too late,” Sheridan Coach Louis Campbell said. “We didn’t play very good on defense. We gave them 21 points. They had a fumble returned for a touchdown. That was 28 points.”
