BRYANT – The Bryant Hornets hosted the Russellville Cyclones on Tuesday night and sent them back home with a 53-43 defeat as the Hornets capitalized on the Cyclones’ aggressiveness. Bryant made 25 of 32 (78 percent) free throws opposed to Russellville’s 5 of 8.
“It was probably the ugliest game I’ve ever been associated with in terms of offense,” Bryant Coach Mike Abrahamson said. “We both played really good defense, we both had each other scouted well. Both sets of kids did a great job of taking away our offensive looks.

Bauxite (8-4, 1-0 7-4A) jumped to a 10-2 lead to begin the game, but the Lady Scrappers scrapped their way back to make it a 13-8 Nashville deficit at the end of one. The Lady Miners would go into a lull in the second quarter getting outscored 10-5 resulting in a tie, 18-18, game at the half.

“We played really well,” Bauxite Coach Mark Smith said. “Probably the best we’ve played this season. It was a good time to start out with the first conference game.”
The Miners (5-4, 1-0 7-4A) didn’t get off to a good start as the Scrappers couldn’t miss leading 14-3 early and finished the first quarter with a 16-7 lead over the Miners.
FAYETTEVILLE - Bret Bielema’s first official Arkansas Razorbacks hire is the coach coordinating Bielema’s last two defenses at Wisconsin.

Bielema, the Wisconsin Badgers’ head coach from 2006-2012 and their defensive coordinator in 2004 and 2005, was hired last week to succeed John L. Smith, the interim coach in 2012 after former Arkansas Coach Bobby Petrino was fired last spring.
HASKELL - After two miserable seasons of Harmony Grove Cardinal basketball, first-year head coach Dexter Hendrix seems to have the program going in the right direction. After falling in the season opener to Poyen, the Cardinals had won 7 of 9 entering Tuesday.
With an undefeated 5-3A conference record entering the night, the Cardinals stayed unbeaten in conference play with a low-scoring victory over the visiting Fountain Lake Cobras. With less than 60 combined points scored on the night, the Cardinals walked away with the 34-23 victory.
HASKELL - The Harmony Grove Lady Cardinals have had a tough go at the conference season thus far in 2012, dropping the first two 5-3A contests this year. After losing to Perryville in a 67-44 blowout, Mayflower came to town and sent the Lady Cardinals into a 0-2 hole with a 33-28 win.
