MALVERN – The Bauxite Miners’ season will continue as they picked up a 41-33 win against the Ashdown Panthers Wednesday night in the 7-4A district tournament held at the Bill Hunt Fieldhouse in Malvern. The Miners qualified for the regional tournament next week, but first have to face the No. 1 team in the 4A conference, Pulaski Academy.
“This time of year it’s a one-game season,” Bauxite Coach Mark Smith said. “It’s game to game and our guys, our seniors, we told them if you don’t want your career to be over, you’ve got to step it up.”
MALVERN – It wasn’t pretty, but the Bauxite Lady Miners extended their season with a 55-51 win over the Maumelle Lady Hornets Wednesday in the 7-4A district tournament in Malvern. The Lady Miners now have No. 2 seed and host Malvern tonight.
The Lady Miners (19-9, 11-4 7-4A), the No. 3 seed, looked as if they were going to have smooth sailing when they got up 21-8 after two Mary Crow free throws with 1:29 left in the first half, and leading 23-11 at halftime, but the third quarter and freshman Kamry Orr had other designs.
BENTON – The Benton Lady Panthers had no problem in dispensing the J.A. Fair Lady War Eagles 58-17 Tuesday night in 6A South conference action at Benton Arena. The Lady Panthers ho-hummed their way to the team’s 14th consecutive victory and improved to 12-0 in the 6A South.
“Fair is way down,” Benton Coach Jerry Chumley said. “We got through and didn’t have any injuries so mission accomplished.”
