Benton explodes on Greenbrier, wins tournament with ease

March 12, 2012

BENTON – The Lady Panthers did something Saturday that no other Benton High School softball team had completed in a very long time. After getting past Springdale Harber in the first round of the Bootsie Gordon Tournament in Benton, the Lady Panthers beat Dardanelle 6-0 and Nashville 7-0 to advance to the finals against Greenbrier. After a crazy homerun call early in the game, the Lady Panthers prevailed to beat Greenbrier 12-2 to become tournament champions.

BENTON - It was a scoreless game through four innings, but the Benton Panthers came away with a 5-0 victory over the Monticello Billies Friday night in Benton. Junior left-handed started Justin Vincent gave up one hit, a double in the second inning, and retired the last 13 batters he faced. The Panthers retired the last 16 batters of the game.

“He did a great job,” Benton Coach Mark Balisterri said of Vincent.
