DEQUEEN â€“ The Bauxite Miners dropped a 6-5 decision to the DeQueen Leopards on Friday night in 7-4A conference play in DeQueen.
Down 6-2 going into the seventh inning, the Miners (8-10, 2-4 7-4A) scored three runs in the top of the seventh, but fell just short.
â€śWe had the tying run at second and the winning run at first,â€ť Bauxite Coach Michael Mattox said of the last inning. â€śWe had the double steal on, and on the same pitch, we struck out to end the game. We were hoping for a throw there to see what happened, but we didnâ€™t get one.â€ť
PINE BLUFF â€“ The Benton Panthers traveled to Pine Bluff expecting to score some runs, but instead got a pitching duel on Friday night against the Zebras in 6A South conference action. The Panthers came away with a 1-0 win over Pine Bluff to improve to 16-4 overall and 7-1 in the 6A South. It was the Panthers ninth consecutive win.
â€śIt was crazy,â€ť Benton Coach Mark Balisterri said.
NORTH LITTLE ROCK â€“ The defending state champion Bryant Lady Hornets ran their winning streak to 25 games, dating to last year, with an 8-1 7A Central conference victory over the North Little Rock Lady Cats on Friday at Lady Cat Field at Burns Park in North Little Rock.
â€śBig conference win,â€ť Bryant Coach Debbie Clark said. â€śItâ€™s my first time as [Bryantâ€™s] coach to beat [North Little Rock] here. Itâ€™s a big coaching win for me. I told them thank you. They didnâ€™t know that before the game, but that was big for me.â€ť
