BENTON â€“ The Benton Panthers finished off their historic season with a 78-69 beating of the Pine Bluff Zebras in 7A/6A South conference action on Tuesday night in Benton Arena on Senior Night. The Panthers finished off the regular season with a school-record 25 wins against just two losses. The Panthers, which clinched conference last Tuesday, were undefeated in the South with a 14-0 record and will play East No. 8 Searcy as the South No. 1 seed. Tipoff is 8:30 p.m. at Greenwood High School.
Last yearâ€™s Benton Lady Panther softball team finished the season with a 30-3 showing overall, 14-0 in 6A South conference action and a state semifinal loss to Russellville.
Heading into the offseason, Benton had one thing on its mind: winning a state title in 2013. The leader, and most outspoken Lady Panther pushing the campaign, was defensive standout and senior Drew Melton.
LITTLE ROCK - For a team that is built like a powerhouse and an offensive force to be reckoned with, the Harmony Grove Cardinals took a different approach to its game on Thursday night. Playing in the quarterfinals of the 5-3A district tournament in Little Rock, the Cardinals took Head Coach Dexter Hendrixâ€™s game plan and executed it flawlessly, beating Fountain Lake 33-27 to advance to the semis today against Episcopal.
