PINE BLUFF – It didn’t look like it would be a blowout early in the game, but the Benton Panthers defeated the Pine Bluff Zebras 14-1 in six innings in 7A/6A South conference action on Tuesday at Taylor Field in Pine Bluff. The win places the Panthers 6-0 in the South and 12-2 overall.
BENTON - The Benton Lady Panthers have been on a tear of late, winning six of their last seven, all coming against 7A/6A South foes. On Monday, Benton traveled to Pearcy to take on the Lady Wolves of Lake Hamilton in a makeup game. With hot bats smoking for Benton, Lake Hamilton’s gloves were rather shaky as Benton romped out to a quick 9-0 lead before winning 10-1.
Stevi Berg led the game off by reaching on an error and later scored on another error, this time with Ashton Currey at the dish. Daphne Bono also scored after following Berg with a single.
BAUXITE - The Bauxite Miners jumped ahead early, but ultimately fell 11-3 to the Arkansas Baptist Eagles in 7-4A action on Monday. The Miners drop to 6-8 (1-4) with the loss.
“We started out good but just didn’t put them away when we needed to,” Bauxite Coach Michael Mattox said. “We left seven runners on base through the first three innings. With one hit, we could have blown it open, but we couldn’t get it.”
HASKELL - The Harmony Grove Lady Cardinals have become accustomed to winning games early and with ease, outscoring their opponents 40-0 over the past three games entering Monday’s contest. With Perryville coming to town, Harmony Grove found itself in a dog fight early.
But thanks once again to a powerful bat and even better arm, Kristen Dempsey and the Lady Cardinals came away with their 13th straight win, this one a 4-3 victory.
