HASKELL â€“ After taking two games from Magnet Cove (9-5 and 6-5 wins) over the weekend, the Benton Harmony Grove Cardinals put their winning streak at six with a 14-2 shellacking of the Cutter Morning Star Eagles on Monday.
â€śIâ€™m very proud of the leaps and bounds these guys have made this year,â€ť Cardinalsâ€™ Coach Brandon Mynhier said. â€śThey work hard and have really learned how to win.â€ť
The Cardinals (10-8, 5-2 5-3A) pounded out 11 hits in the win and Ryan Roush started getting the win. Roush gave up two runs on five hits and two walks in five innings, and struck out six.
BRYANT â€“ The Bryant Hornets soccer team wasted little time in dispensing of the JA Fair War Eagles 9-0 in 7A/6A South conference play on Friday at Hornets Stadium.
Junior Bryce Denker scored five goals in the win, the second time this season Denker has scored five goals in a game. But Denker didnâ€™t start the game with a goal. It was an assist to senior Cameron Furton from Denker at the 36:14 mark of the first half that got the scoring started.
LITTLE ROCK â€“ The Benton Panthers soccer team had no trouble with the JA Fair War Eagles in 7A/6A South conference action on Wednesday in Little Rock. The Panthers won 7-0 and Coach Bobby Winn said his team didnâ€™t suffer a hangover after its emotional victory against Bryant last week. It was the first time Benton boys soccer beat Bryant since 2004.
â€śThe team played really focused after a huge win vs. Bryant and did not play into a trap game situation,â€ť Winn said.
BRYANT â€“ The Bryant Lady Hornets fell 8-6 to the Lake Hamilton Lady Wolves in 7A/6A South conference action on Friday at Lady Hornets Field. Bryant was down 7-2 in the fifth inning, but couldnâ€™t complete the comeback in the bottom of the seventh.
The Lady Wolves jumped on the Lady Hornets (10-9, 6-4 South) in the first inning plating three run in the top half. Bryant responded with a run in the bottom half when junior Katy Stillman scored on a passed ball.
BENTON - The Benton Lady Panthers were the rulers of the 6A South conference a season ago, finishing with an undefeated 14-0 record and earning the No. 1 seed in the 2012 State Tournament. With that season history, a new leader has emerged in the conference; the Sheridan Lady Yellowjackets.
JESSIEVILLE â€“ The Benton Harmony Grove Cardinals improved to 4-2 in the 5-3A conference with a 9-1 win over the Jessieville Lions on Friday.
Tyler Hamilton started for the Cardinals and struck out 13 Lions in the win, giving up one run on five hits in seven innings. He walked just one.
BENTON â€“ Bryant Hornet senior Nate Rutherford didnâ€™t allow a Benton Panther past first base until the final inning in a 6-1 Bryant win over Benton in 7A/6A South conference action on Friday at Panther Field. The Hornets returned the favor to the Panthers as Benton defeated Bryant in the first matchup 1-0.
BRYANT â€“ The Benton Panthers did something to the Bryant Hornets they havenâ€™t done in 10 years. The Panthers beat the Hornets 2-1 on Friday in Bryant, which was the first victory for the Panthers over the Hornets (13-2-1, 7-1 South) since 2004.
â€śIt was a huge win,â€ť Benton Coach Bobby Winn said. â€śOur seniors led the way with the game plan and everybody that played, played with every ounce of energy in their heart and pulled off a great victory theyâ€™ve been trying to get for years.â€ť
PINE BLUFF â€“ It didnâ€™t look like it would be a blowout early in the game, but the Benton Panthers defeated the Pine Bluff Zebras 14-1 in six innings in 7A/6A South conference action on Tuesday at Taylor Field in Pine Bluff. The win places the Panthers 6-0 in the South and 12-2 overall.
BENTON - The Benton Lady Panthers have been on a tear of late, winning six of their last seven, all coming against 7A/6A South foes. On Monday, Benton traveled to Pearcy to take on the Lady Wolves of Lake Hamilton in a makeup game. With hot bats smoking for Benton, Lake Hamiltonâ€™s gloves were rather shaky as Benton romped out to a quick 9-0 lead before winning 10-1.
Stevi Berg led the game off by reaching on an error and later scored on another error, this time with Ashton Currey at the dish. Daphne Bono also scored after following Berg with a single.
