McClendon's can't hold leads in DH

June 5, 2013

BENTON – The Benton McClendon’s were up in both games of their doubleheader against the AAA Texarkana Razorbacks in American Legion baseball action on Friday, but ended up with 10-9 and 2-1 losses to fall to 0-3 on the young season.
In Game 2, Benton was up 1-0 with two outs and runners at second and third, with an 0-2 count when McClendon’s catcher Shawn Beesley overthrew his pitcher Hunter McDade, which resulted in the tying and winning runs to come around the score, when no one was backing up. Benton Coach Brandon Wake thought he had seen everything in his years coaching baseball.

'So what's the scouting report Trent?'

May 31, 2013

FAYETTEVILLE -  Trent Daniel repeatedly  represented Bryant and  never opposed Bryant.
Until perhaps  Friday  night in Manhattan, Kan. For Daniel would be pitching against  Bryant should the Arkansas Razorbacks summon their senior southpaw native son of Bryant, Ark., to relieve vs.  Bryant University in the  first round of the four-team, double-elimination  Manhattan  Baseball Regional.
“I’ve gotten a couple of jokes from my teammates,” Daniel said. “ It’s kind of funny being from Bryant and playing a team called Bryant, I guess.”
What have they said?

Former Cardinal's time short, but sweet

May 28, 2013

I was looking at old-school baseball cards one day online and as the St. Louis Cardinals are saved in my searches, I came across some cards of a former Cardinal I had never heard about. And being a huge Cardinal and history fan (I used to be a history major), I was a little disappointed in myself that I didn't know who Dick Hughes was and how huge he was for the Cardinals 1967 world series team, which St. Louis won over the Boston Red Sox in seven games. That and the fact Hughes was born in Stephens, Ark.
