BAUXITE â€” The Bauxite Miners have had a hard time winning this season. Owners of a 1-8 overall record and still winless in 7-4A conference play, the Miners head into the the final week of the season with a trip to Nashville tonight.
Bauxite is coming off of a 62-7 loss to conference favorite Arkadelphia last week, a game in which the Miners totaled 226 yards of offense. Rooks led in passing yards with 150. The quarterback added a touchdown to his resume but also threw two interceptions. Junior wide receiver Ben Madison led with 10 catches for 93 yards and a TD in the loss.
RUSSELLVILLE â€” For those watching in the Russellville High School gym, the 6A Volleyball State Championship match was one to remember. The Benton Lady Panthers fell 16-14 in the fifth and final set of the 6A state final to the Jonesboro Lady Hurricane on Saturday night to finish as runner-up in the state.
â€śIt was a great game,â€ť Benton Coach Brandy Chumley said. â€śIf you go out with a loss, you want it to be a game like that. Hard in everything that they gave.â€ť
BENTON -Â Â With the painful sting of a recent loss still fresh in the air, the Saline County town of Benton played host to the ninth grade football team of cross county rival Bryant. Both teamâ€™s wanted this victory and the fans showed in resilient support of todayâ€™s youngsters and tomorrowâ€™s War Memorial salt slingerâ€™s.Â Benton football would walk away with salt in their wounds once again this season taking a beating from Bryant 34-0.
