FAYETTEVILLE - Only at Arkansas it seems, is a team finishing with a national runner-up finish at the NCAA Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships deemed coming up short.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. â€“ After losing 2-1 and 1-0 heartbreakers Friday and Saturday to the Florida Gators, Arkansas flogged Florida 9-3 Sunday in the final game of the SEC season-opening series at Florida's McKethan Stadium.
The Razorbacks take 9-7 overall and 1-2 in the SEC records back to Baum Stadium for 6:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. nonconference games Tuesday and Wednesday against Grambling State before hosting Alabama in next weekend's three-game SEC series.
Florida finished the series 13-7 overall and 2-1 in the SEC.
JONESBORO â€“ Making the 6A State Tournament semifinals their second consecutive year against the Jonesboro Golden Hurricane, the result was almost exactly the same as last season as the Benton Panthers fell 63-53 on Tuesday afternoon at Jonesboro High School. The Hurricane defeated Benton last year 61-51 in the semis at Greenwood.
â€śThey had depth,â€ť Benton Coach Dwaine Fishburn said of Jonesboro. â€śI could see that at the end. We got into some early foul trouble. Our game plan, early on, was working really well.â€ť
