Although the first part of the game Thursday was close, eventually Watson Chapel pulled away from Bauxite.
At the end of five innings, Watson Chapel was ahead four runs, 14-8, but scored two in the sixth and six in the seventh to win 20-8.
â€śThey won by a couple of touchdowns,â€ť Bauxite head coach Wes Mode said. â€śStill, I was really pleased with our hitting, but I was disappointed in our defense.â€ť
Bryant senior Abbi Stearns signed a letter of intent Thursday to attend and play basketball for Central Baptist College in Conway.
Stearns has been a member of the Bryant varsity team for the past three years and started the past two. She said playing for the Lady Hornets has been a â€śreal experience.â€ť
Last week, Stearns was named to the 2011 7A Central All-Conference Team, which she also made last year as a junior. As this yearâ€™s lone senior, she led the Lady Hornets in rebounds, averaging eight per game. She led the team in rebounds as a junior, too.
The Harmony Grove Cardinals scored three runs in the first, one in the second, six in the third and two in the fourth to defeat Cutter Morning Star 12-2 in five innings Tuesday afternoon.
Rex Furry pitched a one-hit shutout until the top of the fifth when he gave up a two-run single after walking two with one out. Furry finished the game allowing two runs on two hits with two walks.
He struck out 10.
â€śThis conference is pretty tough and nothing is given,â€ť coach Brandon Kelly said. â€śLast night we played a complete game. It always feels good to get a win.â€ť
