Sometimes you can’t buy a goal; other times they fall out of the sky.
Goals fell out of the sky as the Bryant Lady Hornets, led by Tarra Hendricks’ hat trick, easily defeated the Van Buren Lady Pointers 7-0 in conference soccer action Thursday at Hornet Stadium.
“I’m never going to complain about a shutout,” head coach Julie Long said. “Our defense always does a good job. Lindsay Brazil always does a good job on defense.”
Eddie Poland and Luke Vance were named to the 6A All-State Team after the Benton Panthers finished the season as co-champions of the 6A South for the first time since 1989.
Poland, a three-year letterman, finished the season averaging nine points and three steals per game.
“He finished the season strong for us and was probably our best defender,” Benton coach Chris Nail said.
Nail said Poland will be visiting North Central Community College in Missouri, which is the same one former Panther Brandon Jones attended a couple of years ago.
The Miners got some sweet revenge Tuesday, and did it in true dramatic fashion.
Bauxite beat former conference foe Jessieville 16-15 on two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning by sophomore Chris Revas.
The Miners (9-5, 1-0), the defending 3A State Champions who have since moved up to 4A, lost twice to Jessieville last year. Bauxite only lost five games on their way to capturing the title.
Bauxite head coach Michael Mattox said, “Next to the state championship game, that was probably the best game I’ve ever coached.
