This time last year, Glen Rose quarterback Collin Hunter had one of the best running backs in the state behind him with Steven Kehner. Having that âsafety blanketâ in the backfield gave Hunter a year to mature and become a leader for the Glen Rose Beavers without the added pressure of being a starting quarterback.
Friday night, it seemed to pay off as Hunter led the Glen Rose Beavers to a 35-0 win over undefeated Jessieville on the road.
âHe is growing up every week,â coach Mark Kehner said. âThis was probably his first big game with the pressure on him to make plays and lead us.â
September 30th
When the Bryant Lady Hornets volleyball team went to Little Rock to play the Mount St. Mary Belles in early September at the McAuley Center, the Hornets lost to the Belles in four games due in large part to inconsistency.
On Thursday night, the Hornets revenged the loss to their rivals defeating them in four games â 3-1 (17-25, 25-19, 25-17, 25-17) â at home. The win gave Bryant its fourth 7A Central conference victory in a row and the Hornets are sitting comfortably in second place behind the Conway Lady Wampus Cats, which they play on Oct. 11 in Conway.
September 29th
The Benton Panther tennis team swept Texarkana in doubles competition Tuesday afternoon at Tyndall Park.
Benton seniors Ian McMahn and Dudley Stow defeated Texarkanaâs Flowers and Hemperley 8-6. Seniors Sam Anderson and Jake Jakonczuk defeated Texarkanaâs Brock and Gregory 8-2.
Seniors Nathan Perry and Clint Powell defeated Flowers and Hemperley 8-4.
In singles competition, senior Eric Emmons defeated Tanner McClean 8-4 while senior Austin Willis defeated Devonte Murphy 8-1.
Sophomore Trey Young lost to McClean 1-8.
September 28th
The Benton Lady Panther golf team finished as conference runner-up and fourth in state after a two-day tournament.
On the first day, Grace Lile shot an 89, Karli Lipinski shot a 104, Daphne Bono shot a 119, Kayla Payne shot a 104, Kaylen Presnall shot a 117 and Bentonâs team total was a 297.
The first day round total was good enough for a second place finish in conference behind conference champion El Dorado, who shot a 289 as a team.
On the second day, Lile shot a 85, Lipinski shot a 89, and Payne shot a 95.
After missing out on the 7A girls state golf championships final round on Tuesday, the Bryant Lady Hornetsâ golf team had two players golfing as individuals.
The Lady Hornets came in sixth place out of 10 teams on Monday in the championshipâs opening round, and the top five teams advanced to the final round.
Sophomore Peyton Weaver shot a 15-over 86 on Tuesday after scoring an 85 on Monday. She finished ninth overall with her 171 and earned all-state honors.

Sometimes you just know when there is a future NFL player in your presence. Back in 2000, the Bryant Hornets were preparing to play the Camden Fairview Cardinals at Hornet Stadium and future NFLÂ pro-bowler Shawn Andrews played for the Cardinals
BRYANT â The Bryant Lady Hornetsâ inconsistency has subsided for the time being according to Coach Beth Solomon and it showed as Bryant defeated 7A Central conference foe North Little Rock 3-1 (22-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-19) on Thursday night in Bryant.
Even though both the Lady Hornets and Lady Charging Wildcats have a 5-2 conference record, Bryant holds the tie-breaker between the two teams, giving them second place behind Conway.
September 21st
The Sheridan Yellowjackets escaped the White Hall Bulldogs with a 13-8 win last week and it was the first time in 25 years that they picked up a victory in White Hall. Sheridan hits the road to Lake Hamilton to take on the Wolves this Friday in their first 6A South conference game.
The Yellowjackets are also 2-1 for the first time in a while according to Sheridan Coach Louis Campbell.
âAnd to think we gave the first one away ⊠well I wonât go there and ruin the mood!â Campbell said on www.sheridanfootball.com.
Both the Bryant boys and girlâs golf teams placed second on Tuesday at Hurricane Creek Country Club. Cabot took first for both boys and girls, edging the Hornets by one shot, while North Little Rock brought up the rear.
The Hornets shot a 151, led by junior Tyler Greenâs 1-under 35. Green started off at 2-under before bogeying the fourth hole. He finished with three birdies and two bogeys.
Junior Austin Harmon shot a 1-over 37 including an eagle on the par-5 eighth hole, freshman Nick Canale shot a 3-over 39, and junior Aston Green shot a 40. Sophomore Chase Thornton added a 42.
September 20th
The Bryant Lady Hornets won three out of their four varsity matches, defeating Van Buren last Thursday at Rebsamen Tennis Center in Little Rock. The boys team lost both their singles and doubles matches.
Lady Hornets senior Callie Hogancamp defeated Brittney Yeamons 8-6 in Girls 1 singles and sophomore Whitney Butler beat Logan Moore 8-4 in Girls 2 singles for the singlesâ sweep.
âCallie Hogancamp got back on the winning track and Whitney won her second conference match of the three so far,â Bryant Coach Steve Wilson said.
