EL DORADO – After an uninspiring first half of play, the Benton Panthers took it to the El Dorado Wildcats 65-39 in 7A/6A South Conference play on Tuesday night in El Dorado. The Panthers improve to 14-5 overall and 5-1 in the South.
“I thought the first half, rebounding-wise, we were very lackadaisical,” Benton Coach Dwaine Fishburn said. “We let their athleticism get to us. They hit the boards hard against us. I was disappointed by our defensive rebounding.
“We weren’t hungry or played with a purpose in the first half.”
HASKELL -- The Harmony Grove Cardinals (15-4 6-3) gave up 21 points on turnovers in their 53-47 loss to Mayflower (11-3 8-1) on Friday night at the Daniel Henley Fieldhouse. After falling to the Eagles earlier in the season, 54-52, the Cardinals hoped for revenge, but the athleticism and guard play of Mayflower was too much in the loss.
BRYANT – Junior guard Jakeria Otey started and finished the game by missing two free throws for the Bryant Lady Hornets, but in between she put on solid offensive display scoring 18 points to help lift the Hornets to a 43-38 win against the Texarkana Razorbacks in a conference game at home in Bryant Friday night.
The win improved the Lady Hornets to 2-3 in conference play and 6-9 overall. Texarkana started the game off quickly by taking a 9-3 lead early in the game that forced Bryant Head Coach Brad Matthews to take a timeout.
