SEARCY – The Benton Lady Panthers fought hard, but fell 4-0 to the Mountain Home Lady Bombers in the first round of the 6A State Tournament in Searcy on Thursday.
It was a scoreless game until the Lady Bombers struck with about four minutes left in the first half to take a 1-0 lead at halftime.
“The score is not a true indicator of the way the game was played,” Benton Coach Jason Gentry said. “ It was a very even, physical game. In the second half they pulled away because they could sub three to five girls at a time without much of a drop off in the talent.”
GLEN ROSE - Some teams go years without bringing home any tournament hardware, let alone three in one season. But for the Harmony Grove Lady Cardinals, all of the hard work has paid off. After winning the Woodlawn Tournament in comeback fashion two weeks ago, the Lady Cardinals have put together a phenomenal run, winning the 5-3A District Tournament and now the 3A Region 2 Regional over Bald Knob 5-2.
BRYANT – Two-time All-State and three-time All-Conference selection and Bryant Lady Hornet setter Hannah Rice is taking her talents South for the upcoming season. Rice signed a letter of intent to play volleyball for the Southern Arkansas University (Magnolia) Lady Muleriders on Wednesday at Bryant High School. There was little doubt in Rice's mind after visiting SAU.
"When I visited there, I loved the campus," Rice said. "I felt at home almost immediately. It wasn’t too big or too small. It was the perfect size. Their volleyball team is really good and I wanted to be a part of it."
