It is not that big of a surprise that the St. Louis Cardinals are near the top for best record in baseball at the halfway point. A force to be reckoned with over the past decade, the Cardinals have been in and out of the playoffs and on both the positive and negative side of the World Series trophy.
RUSSELLVILLE â€“ The Benton McClendonâ€™s Appliances hit into four double plays in a 3-0 loss to Russellville Post 20 at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville on Wednesday. The loss sets the McClendonâ€™s down to 7-12 on the year.
Russellville scored just one run in the first inning despite three walks and two hits issued by starter Trey Bishop. Post 20 would score just two unearned runs in the bottom of the third to take a 3-0 lead which would hold up for the rest of the game.
BENTON â€“ Benton Sport Shop couldnâ€™t overcome a slow start while allowing 15 hits in a 12-4 loss to the Sylvan Hills Bruins on Bill Perry Field at Bernard Holland Park in Benton on Tuesday.
â€śSylvan Hills is a great team,â€ť Benton Coach Steven Tew said. â€śThey hit the ball very well against us. The good thing is none of us gave up. We rallied back there in the end and that was promising. We got a couple of guys banged upâ€¦ weâ€™ll be ready by district tournament.â€ť
BENTON â€“ Former Benton Panther first baseman Trey Bishop signed a letter of intent to play for the Arkansas Tech (Russellville) Wonder Boys on Monday afternoon at Benton Arena. Bishop was an All-Conference selection for the 22-5 Panthers, which fell in the semifinals of the 6A State Tournament.
