Gladys C. Chambliss

Gladys C. Chambliss, age 90, of Benton passed away Friday, March 14, 2014. 
She was born March 3, 1924, in Casa, Ark.
Mrs. Chambliss was a homemaker and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilburn F. and Mittie Cody; her husband, Robert Chambliss; and a granddaughter, Allison Chambliss.

Robert John Donoher

Robert John Donoher entered the Lord’s presence on Monday, March 10, 2014. He was born in Toledo, Ohio, on June 9, 1925. Bob was a WWII veteran who proudly served his country. On October 11, 1979, he married Rose Eriksen, becoming a caring father to six children, ranging from ages 14-22. Bob was a loving and loyal husband of 34 years. He will always be loved and remembered as the best father and grandfather. He retired as a railroad police sergeant for the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad System in Oregon, Ohio. Bob loved sharing stories about his 37 years as a railroad officer.

Maxine Mildred Martin

Maxine Mildred Martin, 88, of Benton, passed away March 13, 2014.  She was born Sept. 19, 1925, in Traskwood, to the late Lee Roy and Eunice Crooks Callahan. 
Maxine was of the Baptist faith. She worked for Arkansas State Hospital for over 24 years, 15 of which she worked as an L.P.T.N.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Leroy and John Callahan; and a sister, Juanita Callahan.

W. Edward Tarvin

W. Edward Tarvin, 60, a former Bauxite resident, died Monday, March 10, 2014, from complications during heart surgery at a Fayetteville hospital.
He was a private-practice attorney for the Tarvin Law Firm in Fayetteville. He was a member of the bar associations of Washington County, Benton County, and Oklahoma, and was licensed to practice in state and federal district courts in both states and before the U.S. circuit courts of appeals for the Sixth District and for the Tenth District.

Virginia 'Ginny' Simmons

Virginia “Ginny” Simmons, 95, of Benton died March 12, 2014.
Born June 7, 1918, Ginny was the devoted wife and mother every husband and child should have. She was energetic, adventurous, and an unrelenting optimist, especially about her family. Her home was a depot for anyone needing a friend, a bite to eat, or a place to laugh. Her sense of humor and lust for life inspired her friends and family.

Hurricane blows over Benton again

JONESBORO – Making the 6A State Tournament semifinals their second consecutive year against the Jonesboro Golden Hurricane, the result was almost exactly the same as last season as the Benton Panthers fell 63-53 on Tuesday afternoon at Jonesboro High School. The Hurricane defeated Benton last year 61-51 in the semis at Greenwood.
“They had depth,” Benton Coach Dwaine Fishburn said of Jonesboro. “I could see that at the end. We got into some early foul trouble. Our game plan, early on, was working really well.”

James Mitchell Orrell

James Mitchell Orrell, 63, of Jessieville passed away March 10, 2014. He was born May 7, 1950, in Steve, Ark., to Bob and Lillie Orrell. Mitchell was a U.S. Army veteran and a longtime employee of Alcoa. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to garden and raise his animals. He had a great sense of humor and was a devoted family man.
Mitchell was loved by all and will be deeply missed.
He was predeceased by his father, Bob Orrell, and a sister, Wanda Sue.

Leonard Floyd 'Hoss' Cartwright

Leonard Floyd “Hoss” Cartwright, 71, of Bauxite passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2014, in Little Rock. He was born Feb. 1, 1943, in Dermott to the late Leonard and Edna Ray (McDowell) Cartwright.  Mr. Cartwright was a member of West Bauxite Missionary Baptist Church and had worked for Alcoa as a miner.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret (Hamilton) Cartwright.

Benjamin 'Ben' Powell Brewer

Benjamin "Ben" Powell Brewer, 21, of Little Rock passed away March 10, 2014.
He was born Aug. 28, 1992, in Little Rock to Gregory Lee  Brewer and Mary Virginia Keeter Dean.
Ben loved rescuing animals, fishing, hiking and being in nature. He had a deep connection with the community of SOMA, Vino’s and all his friends and memories at Fayetteville.

William H. 'Bill' Price

William H. “Bill” Price, 86, of Benton, began walking on streets of gold March 12, 2014.
He was born in 1927 to William and Annis Staton Price in Malvern. He retired from Alcoa after 33 years and was a deacon and member of Holland Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. He was active as a church leader all of his life. He was a Sunday School superintendent, church treasurer, and deacon for over 50 years, and had become a deacon emeritus.
Bill volunteered for 17 years as the supervisor of Holland Chapel Food Service for all church meals and bereavement foods and had many volunteer assistants.
