Official: Boston Marathon bomb suspect in custody

A suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings was taken into custody Wednesday in a breakthrough that came less than 48 hours after the deadly attack, a law enforcement official briefed on the investigation said Wednesday.
The official spoke shortly after several media outlets reported that a suspect had been identified from surveillance video taken at a Lord & Taylor store between the sites of the two bomb blasts, which killed three people and wounded more than 170.

MedFlight called to Bryant after driver hits tree

MedFlight was called to Bryant for the second time this week on Wednesday. Sgt. Todd Crowson with the Bryant Police Department said that a male driver crashed into a tree on Boswell Road in Bryant around 11 a.m. The driver was transported by MedFlight to Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock. The name and age of the victim have not yet been released and a condition report has not been made available. More information will be reported as it becomes available.

Cardinals rout Lions

JESSIEVILLE – The Benton Harmony Grove Cardinals improved to 4-2 in the 5-3A conference with a 9-1 win over the Jessieville Lions on Friday.
Tyler Hamilton started for the Cardinals and struck out 13 Lions in the win, giving up one run on five hits in seven innings. He walked just one.

Hornets return favor

BENTON – Bryant Hornet senior Nate Rutherford didn’t allow a Benton Panther past first base until the final inning in a 6-1 Bryant win over Benton in 7A/6A South conference action on Friday at Panther Field. The Hornets returned the favor to the Panthers as Benton defeated Bryant in the first matchup 1-0.

Benton tops Bryant

BRYANT – The Benton Panthers did something to the Bryant Hornets they haven’t done in 10 years. The Panthers beat the Hornets 2-1 on Friday in Bryant, which was the first victory for the Panthers over the Hornets (13-2-1, 7-1 South) since 2004.
“It was a huge win,” Benton Coach Bobby Winn said. “Our seniors led the way with the game plan and everybody that played, played with every ounce of energy in their heart and pulled off a great victory they’ve been trying to get for years.”

Bryant robotics team leaves for world championship today

The Bryant Hornet Engineering Robotics Team leaves for Anaheim, Calif. today to compete in the VEX Robotics World Championship. The students will be up against thousands of students from more than 20 countries.

The team plans to regularly update the site while at the competition with new videos and special features to keep Bryant supporters in the loop, said Devin Sherrill, Bryant schools communications director.

WRECK UPDATE: Driver was traveling on I-30 prior to crossing service road, crashing

WRECK UPDATE: Sgt. Todd Crowson of the Bryant Police Department said the driver of the 18-wheeler that was traveling westbound and left the road on the northbound side of Interstate 30 was a female driver and was taken to Baptist Regional Medical Center via MedFlight around 11 a.m. this morning.

Hunter Mickelson transferring from UA

Arkansas sophomore Hunter Mickelson will not be a part of the Razorbacks basketball squad next year, according to his father. Darien Mickelson, Hunter's dad, said that his son will be transferring away from UA at the conclusion of the 2013 spring semester.
Mickelson set the freshman shot-blocking record two seasons ago with 72 while averaging 5.2 points and 3.7 rebounds per game in 548 minutes as a freshman.

Traffic on service road congested after 18-wheeler wreck

An 18-wheeler ran off the service road on the northbound side of Interstate 30 earlier today. The vehicle was traveling west, behind Ashley's Furniture in Bryant.
Traffic in the area is congested, as local authorities continue to deal with the incident.
Sgt. Todd Crowson with the Bryant Police Department said when the accident was reported the witness informed police that the driver of the truck was unconscious.

Ark. House passes 'private-option' Medicaid funds

The Arkansas House on Tuesday approved a plan to use federal Medicaid funds to buy private insurance for low-income residents, with many Republicans saying the approach is the best way to maintain some control over provisions of a new federal health care law they still oppose.
The private-option plan was presented to legislators in two parts, with one part including language authorizing the plan and a second part setting up the funding. The funding element finally won its needed three-fourths vote in the House, though it still needs to be approved by the same margin in the Senate.
