Bryant council approves purchase to repair pool

During a special meeting of the Bryant City Council, the council approved spending up to $5,000 to repair or replace the Bishop Park pool pak pump.

The meeting lasted about four minutes, said staff attorney Chris Madison.

“While doing regular maintenance personnel discovered a weird noise,” Madison said.

This equipment regulates the pool temperature and the temperature in the building, said Parks and Recreation Director Derek Phillips.

2 arrested after high speed chase

A man was arrested Tuesday morning following a domestic disturbance at Bullock’s Superstop.

After responding to the scene, an officer attempted to stop Keith Stafford, 22, of Benton, who was driving a 1995 Ford Ranger truck on Interstate 30. Stafford allegedly did not stop and continued to travel at a high rate of speed.

“Speeds were averaging from 100 mph to 50 mph without incident,” according to the Benton police report.

Stafford eventually took Exit 118, where he and passenger Madison Davis, 19, of Benton, were arrested.

Benton recognized for volunteer efforts

The city of Benton was named the Arkansas Volunteer Community of the Year by the Arkansas Municipal League.
Benton has received this award for five of the last six years, said Mayor David Mattingly.

For August of 2013 to August of 2014, 9,501 residents volunteers for a total of 315,198 hours, said Tina Coston, executive assistant.

Throughout the year, Coston logs the number of volunteer hours resident complete.
