Dangling workers rescued from World Trade Center

November 12, 2014

NEW YORK — New York City officials don't yet know why a cable malfunctioned and left a scaffold dangling precariously on the 1 World Trade Center tower, where two window washers were stuck for nearly two hours before a dramatic rescue.

Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro (NEYE'-groh) says firefighters used diamond cutters to saw through a two-layered glass window and bring the workers to safety Wednesday afternoon.

He says the workers had mild hypothermia after their ordeal outside the 69th floor of the nation's tallest building.

Veterans, others honored at courthouse ceremony

November 12, 2014

Dropping temperatures and threats of rain moved the annual Saline County Veterans Day ceremony inside the county courthouse on Tuesday, but the change in location did nothing to deter a standing-room-only crowd that filled Courtroom No. 1 for the holiday tradition.

Ron Cloud, commander of Post 2256, Veterans of Foreign Wars, welcomed those in attendance and gave the keynote address.

The observance opened with the presentation of the colors by the Air Force JROTC from Bryant High School.
