Franklin “Frank” Filmore Newcomb

Franklin “Frank” Filmore Newcomb, 89, of North Little Rock, formerly of Scott and Bryant, died Sunday, June 12. He was born August 21, 1921, in Bigelow to Cora and William Newcomb.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, sister and wife, Juanita. He is survived by his son, Randall and wife, Cindy of North Little Rock; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister.
He was a World War II veteran and a member of All Souls Church in Scott and Indian Springs Baptist Church in Bryant.

DAVIS: It’s time to fish or cut bait

Anyone who has dropped a line into the water in hopes of catching a fish knows when that point in time comes around when a decision has to be made to continue fishing or head for the house. Despite all the best efforts of bait, location and the skills of the fisherman, sometimes it just isn’t worth it anymore. This is the exact point in time that Benton finds itself.

McClendon’s rolls past Little Rock Express

Benton McClendon’s Appliance Senior Legion baseball team scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat Little Rock Express 8-3 Monday night on the campus of UALR.
McClendon’s scored two runs in the first, two in the second and four in the fourth, while Little Rock scored two runs in the second and one run in the third.
Ryne Besancon led off the first with a triple and Levon Steward reached on a fielder’s choice. Steward later scored on a RBI double by Chase Southworth. After a fly out, Corky Welch singled to plate Southworth.
