3rd coat drive planned in local community

Benton School District's YEA! team is sponsoring a coat drive this month.

Students will be collecting items the week of Nov. 10-14 at the various schools in the district, said Sheri Shilling of Benton Junior High.

On Nov. 15 (America Recycles Day), the drive will be opened to the public with a drop-off site at the high school arena, Shilling noted.

The arena will be open from 9 a.m. until noon for the coat collection, she said.

Baby tests positive for meth, THC; mother arrested after drugs found in child's system

A Saline County mother was arrested Thursday after drugs were allegedly found in her child’s system.

Shelby Nalley, 21, of Shannon Hills has been charged with introduction of a controlled substance into the body of another person, which is a Class Y felony. She also is charged with endangering the welfare of a minor.

Nalley's 15-month-old child allegedly tested positive for methamphetamine and tetrahydrocannabinol, commonly known as THC, according a report from the Saline County Sheriff’s Office.

Graydon Bridges Hardister, 80, of Benton passed away November, 1, 2014. He was born May 22, 1934 to the late James Buckner and Eunice Bridges Hardister in Reydel.

Clara Sue Woodrum, 79, of Benton left her earthly ties to dwell with the Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014.
She was born March 1, 1935, in Bauxite, to William Broadway and Fannie (Stroup) Broadway, both of whom have passed.
Clara’s great passions were being surrounded by her family, preserving and canning fruits and vegetables, as well as serving the Benton Senior Wellness and Activity Center as a volunteer for many years. She loved all of the folks there and was especially known for her ability to get them moving about in dance sessions.
