3rd coat drive planned in local community

Benton School District's YEA! team is sponsoring a coat drive this month.

Students will be collecting items the week of Nov. 10-14 at the various schools in the district, said Sheri Shilling of Benton Junior High.

On Nov. 15 (America Recycles Day), the drive will be opened to the public with a drop-off site at the high school arena, Shilling noted.

The arena will be open from 9 a.m. until noon for the coat collection, she said.

Baby tests positive for meth, THC; mother arrested after drugs found in child's system

A Saline County mother was arrested Thursday after drugs were allegedly found in her child’s system.

Shelby Nalley, 21, of Shannon Hills has been charged with introduction of a controlled substance into the body of another person, which is a Class Y felony. She also is charged with endangering the welfare of a minor.

Nalley's 15-month-old child allegedly tested positive for methamphetamine and tetrahydrocannabinol, commonly known as THC, according a report from the Saline County Sheriff’s Office.
