William Persinger

August 17, 2012

William Persinger, 91, of Little Rock passed away Wednesday, Aug. 15.
He was born on Feb. 14, 1921, in Lewellen, Neb., to Jack and Eva Persinger. William was a World War II Army veteran, serving served two years in the Aleutian Islands. He was a Journeymen plumber and was affiliated wit Plumbers and Pipe fitters Local 155.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers John, Harold, Clarence, Everett and Delbert; and a sister, Pearl; his wife, Hazel Bryant Persinger; a son, William Glen II; and s grandson, William Glen III.

Benton police searching for man wanted on multiple felony charges

The Benton Police Department is requesting help from the public in locating a local man wanted for multiple felony crimes.
Jeremy David Burrow, 36, has a listed address in the 2600 block of Razorback Road in Benton. A warrant has been issued for his arrest for first-degree forgery, fleeing by vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving and driving with a suspended driver’s license.

Bryant girls' golf places 2nd

EL DORADO – The Bryant Hornets and Benton Panthers golf teams both participated in the 17th Annual Simmons First Wildcat Invitational Golf Tournament on Monday. The Bryant girls finished best out of the Saline County schools with a second-place finish behind Conway. The Bryant boys finished fourth and the Benton boys and girls each finished fifth.

Peyton Weaver led the Bryant girls, which totaled a 270 (Conway had 255) with an 83 (+11) followed by Savannah Cathey's 91, Abigail Magee's 96 and Kaylee newell's 127.

Lady Panthers to defend South

After a successful 2011-2012 campaign, the Benton Lady Panthers volleyball team is gearing up for another run through the 6A South Conference where they took first place last season. With a 17-9 record overall last season and a 10-2 conference mark, the Lady Panthers were one game away from the State Championship, losing in the semifinals to Mountain Home.

Salem to continue countywide trend with upcoming festival

With Benton and Bryant already at the top of the list for cities in Saline County, the Salem community is attempting to make a bigger name for itself with a new event.
During the past few years, the baseball and softball commissioners, along with Salem Ballpark board members and coaches, have been trying to put together a child- and adult-friendly event.
With Bryant Fest and Benton Freedom Fest already going strong every year, Salem is introducing the first Salem Fest this Sunday beginning at noon.

Robert M. Scott

Robert M. Scott, 86, of Benton passed away Monday, Aug. 13. He was born March 14, 1926, in Saline County (Salem Community).
Robert was a farmer and real estate broker and a member of the Saline County Realtors Association. His family was twice named Saline County Farm Family of the Year.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Benton, where he was longtime choir member and a longtime teacher and leader for the Men’s Bible Class.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton W. and Ida Belle Bard Scott; and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Chastain.

Mike Hardin

Mike Hardin, 51, of Benton passed away on Aug. 14, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
He spent his final weeks lovingly surrounded by his family and close friends. Mike was born in Little Roc, on July 14, 1961. He graduated from Benton High School in 1979 and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in 1983, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in business management.

Lady Hornets finding consistency

BRYANT – After problems with inconsistency last season, the Bryant Lady Hornets volleyball team might have things figured out this year. The Lady Hornets finished last season second to volleyball powerhouse Conway in the 7A Central Conferencelast year, and was up 2-0 against Fort Smith Southside in the first two sets in the second round of the State Tournament before inconsistency set in again and the Lady Hornets lost the next three sets and the match to end their season.

GM awards $25,000 scholarship

Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe visited Everett Buick GMC in Bryant Tuesday to personally congratulate Kayla Henderson of Bryant for winning a Buick Achievers Scholarship.
Henderson will receive $25,000 a year.

Special honor slated for Jordan in board meeting

Dan Jordan, director of student support services for the Benton School District, will receive special recognition tonight in a meeting of the Benton School Board.
Jordan has been named Administrator of the Year by the Arkansas School Personnel Administration. He will be recognized during the Panther Pride presentations at the start of the board meeting.
