Jamiya Nicole Watson was born at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2014, at Medical City Dallas Hospital in Dallas, Texas, weighing 13 ounces. She was 10 inches long.
Jamiya Nicole crossed into The Light at 3:38 p.m. on Oct. 3, 2014.
She is survived by her mother, Javielle Watson; her grandparents, Gerald and Cathy Brangman of Benton; her Uncle Tieren, Uncle Classic and Uncle Zerahzhe of Benton; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other family members and friends.
Memorial arrangements will be announced at a later date

•A man on Madrid reported a possible identity theft.
•A woman at the Benton Police Department reported she was receiving harassing text messages.
•A man at S & S Mini Storage reported his unit has been broken into and items stolen.
•A man at the Benton Police Department reported his check book had been stolen and fraudulently used.
•A woman at the Dogwood Lake Apartments reported her two firearms had been stolen some time in the last three weeks.
•A woman on Military reported someone broke into her vehicle and stole her purse.

Plans set for annual Blessing of the Animals

The annual Blessing of the Animals is scheduled Saturday, Oct. 18, at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 1112 Alcoa Road in Benton.

The event is scheduled for 10 am.

The Rev. Lorrie Slaymaker, pastor of St. Matthew's, encouraged pet owners to bring their pets to receive a blessing from participating ministers.

1st responders detail day of dog attack at Tuesday trial

The trial of two Hot Springs Village women facing charges related to the death of HSV resident Joan Kappen began Tuesday in Saline County Circuit Court.

Brande Coy, 50, and her daughter, Emily Coy, 25, are the defendants.

The case stems from a Nov. 21, 2013, incident that occurred Nov. 21, 2013, when Kappen, 75, was mauled to death by a bull mastiff/ pit bull dog while she was taking her morning walk.
