Artist puts moms in a museum...real moms

BENTONVILLE — The first thing you encounter at a new contemporary art show at Crystal BridgesMuseum of American Art is the "Mom Booth," where a woman in an apron sits at a table.

Behind her, shelves are stocked with Band-Aids, puddings, animal crackers, soup cans, paper lunch bags and clean underwear. She's not a docent or guide. She's a real mom who gives advice, hugs and maybe a scolding. She might ask you to fold laundry or pick Legos off the floor.

And she may inspire thoughts of your own mom or kids. But how is a mom surrounded by Band-Aids and puddings art?

Harris, Carper Old-Fashioned Day king and queen

John Harris and Nona Carper, active participants at the Benton Senior Wellness and Activity Center, will be reigning over activities Saturday at the 40th annual Old-Fashioned Day.

The two were selected through a monetary voting system, with all proceeds benefiting the center.

All activities will be held on and around the Saline County Courthouse square and adjacent areas of Downtown Benton.

Depression screenings offered at SMH as part of observance

In an effort to help build public awareness of behavioral and mental health issues, Saline Memorial Hospital is hosting a depression screening event today in the Health Education Building.

The event began at 9 a.m. and continues until 3 p.m.

The screening is being held on National Depression Screening Day.
