Benton Council delays passage of eminent domain

Benton City Council has delayed voting on an ordinance that would authorize the city to use eminent domain in seize necessary lands for the Alcoa Road improvement project.

In a meeting Monday night, the council determined that passing the ordinance at this time is not appropriate and wants to allow the owners of the property more time to meet with City Attorney Brent Houston.

Benton Police Department releases app

The Benton Police Department is releasing a mobile cell phone app for residents.

Using the app, residents can learn in one place about the department and the services it provides.

"Citizens can gain an array of information that will empower them to fight crime in their communities," said Lt. Kevin Russell, Benton Police Department spokesperson.

With the app, residents can view inmates currently in jail, submit a photo or video tip anonymously and receive emergency messages and alerts from the Benton Police Department.
