Betty J. Risner

Betty J. Risner, 77, of Benton passed away Jan. 8, 2014. She was born June 28, 1936, in Miller County to the late Van Reid and Villa Stuckey Reid. 
Betty was a schoolteacher and was loved by many.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brothers, Howard Reid and Vernon Reid.
She is survived by two sons, Adam Risner of Arizona and Stephen Risner of Kirby; a daughter, Eva Johnston of San Angelo, Texas; a sister, Ruby Welborn of Doddridge; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

William Burget

William Burget, 59, of Benton received his angel wings on Jan. 7, 2014. He was born Sept. 16, 1954, to Carl and Betty in Little Rock.
William loved to go hunting and fishing and was an avid Razorback fan. His most precious times were spent with his family and friends. He loved spoiling all of his nieces and nephews.
William was preceded in death by his father, Carl Burget; his brother, Jimmy Burget; and a nephew, Aiden Brown.

Lady Miners eke past Pottsville

POTTSVILLE – After a rough loss to the Clinton Lady Yellowjackets in the final of the First Service Bank Classic in Clinton almost a week ago, the Bauxite Lady Miners got just what they needed going into the 7-4A Conference season next week. Bauxite defeated the Pottsville Lady Apaches 53-52 on Friday to improve to 8-4 on the season.
“It was a battle,” Bauxite Coach Josh Harrison said. “It was a good win for us after not playing well against Clinton.”
