Smiley walks on at UALR

BENTON – Former Benton Panthers pitcher Zack Smiley will be staying close to home when he continues his education past the high school level. On Tuesday, Smiley signed his intent to walk on with the University of Arkansas Little Rock Trojans at Benton Arena.

“I figured it was the best opportunity to play,” Smiley started. “It’s a good school to get my education and it’s a great program for my future.”

Smiley’s father, Dan, said Zack is following his dream.

Sheriff's Office implementing new method for collecting fines

The Saline County Sheriff's Office announced in July that they would begin suspending drivers' licenses and issuing arrest warrants for individuals who are behind on their fine.

The procedure began on July 26 after a 30-day notification period according to Lt. Scott Courtney, Saline County Sheriff's Office spokesperson, and affects people who have not complied with their monthly payment arrangements.

Sheriff Cleve Barfield said, "There are a large number of offenders that have made very few payments on court-ordered judgments."
