J. Marie Bumgardner

J. Marie Bumgardner, 88, of Benton went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 13. She was born Nov. 10, 1923, in England, to the late Charlie J. and Minnie Mae Miller. She was a homemaker, an excellent cook and a member of Highland Heights Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, William Z. "Bill" Bumgardner; three brothers, Charlie, Claude and Calvin Miller' and three sisters, Rita Woods, Eula Clark, and Pat Chaney.

Infant Anthony Zane Griffin infant son of Kristina Danielle “Krissy†Waldrep and Cecil DeWayne “C.J.†Griffin, Jr. of Benton, passed away September 13 at St. Vincent Hospital in Little Rock.
He is survived by his parents, maternal grandparents, Charles Dewayne Waldrep of Beaumont, Texas and Ernie and Tina Coppock of the Shaw Community; paternal grandparents, , Jo Ann Griffin of Benton and the late Cecil Griffin, and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Sandra Leah Haley Blamberg, 52, of Mabelvale, went to be with the Lord on September 12, with her loving family by her side. She was born on October 17, 1959 in Huntsville, Ala. She was very devoted to her children and loved to cook and cross-stitch. 
She is survived by her loving husband, Bobby Blamberg, three sons; Kyle Weston Haley and his fiancée Carrie Jackson, Cody H. Blamberg and Robby R. Blamberg; five grandchildren, her loving parents Jackie Malloy Yelverton and John Darrell Yelverton. She will be dearly missed by her aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of family and friends.  

Theresa Louise Teague

Theresa Louise Teague, 51,of Benton, passed away on September 12.  Theresa was born on December 25, 1960 in St. Louis, MO. Theresa worked as a LPN and had graduated in the top ten of her nursing class. She was an avid reader, loved watching movies, and working crossword and word puzzles.  Theresa was a Saint Louis Rams football fan and enjoyed watching Nascar.  She was Pentecostal by faith.  Theresa loved spending time with her children, grandchild, and family. She always put her family first and was eagerly expecting her first grandson in October.

Ima Dee Curtis Yates

Ima Dee Curtis Yates, 89, of Benton died Wednesday, Sept. 12.
She was born July 8, 1923, in Swink, Okla.
Ima was a retired LPTN and a member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Minnie Hathcock Curtis; her husband, Dan Gilbert Yates; nine brothers and two sisters.

Lady Panthers on a roll
The Benton Lady Panthers won their seventh consecutive match and improved to 4-0 in conference with a 3-0 sweep of the Texarkana Lady Razorbacks in Texarkana on Thursday. Benton took the match 25-21, 25-17 and 26-24.
“I thought we played well,†Benton Coach Brandy Chumley said. “Overall we stayed up. We try not to give them too many points in a row and that’s our game. We had the lead and we would let them back in.â€

Benton Jrs. 2-0 in conference

The Benton Junior Panthers swept the Bryant Junior Hornets with the ninth graders coming out on top 2-0 (25-18, 25-18) and the eighth graders taking the match 2-0 as well at 25-9 and 25-11. The eighth graders also beat Bethel 25-23 in their second match after being down 8-0 and then beat the Lady Hornets 25-15 in the second set at Bryant Middle School on Thursday.

Benton man arrested in Little Rock for alleged indecent exposure

Little Rock police arrested a Benton man on Friday for an alleged indecent exposure incident, and he could be linked to more incidents.
Brandon Runion, 32, was charged with felony indecent exposure and traffic violations.
Sgt. Cassandra Davis said Runion was taken into custody in the 5300 block of Evergreen in the Hillcrest neighborhood, which is near Mount Saint Mary Academy.
Davis said Runion could be responsible for several indecent exposure incidents that have occurred in the area since May.

Bryants win in thriller

LITTLE ROCK – Bryant quarterback Hayden Lessenberry orchestrated a 13-play, 85-yard touchdown drive with 1:40 to go in the fourth quarter that sealed a 19-18 comeback victory over Little Rock Catholic on Friday at War Memorial Stadium.
 For Lessenberry, it was better late than never.
 In three consecutive offensive possessions in the second half, Lessenberry threw two interceptions and fumbled once, leading to an 18-12 advantage for the Rockets.

Benton fights hard, falls short

On a rain-soaked Friday night at C.W. Lewis Stadium, 66 young men suited up in the maroon and gray of Benton. Sixty-six young men represented themselves, their high school, their families, and the entire Benton community with class. Sixty-six young men gave their heart and soul in an effort to secure a win for the Panthers. Though the Panthers came up a bit short on the scoreboard, the entire community of Benton has reason to be proud of the Panthers and their effort.
