PEARCY â€“ After enduring a seven-game losing streak at the end of December and the beginning of January, the Benton Lady Panthers have won 8 of their past 11 games including a 52-43 victory over the Lady Wolves of Lake Hamilton in Pearcy on Friday night. The win boosts Benton to 15-12 overall, 8-5 in the 6A South and drops Lake Hamilton to 2-10 in the South.
The Lady Panthers jumped to a 6-0 lead in the first before the Lady Wolves came back to tie it 7-7 at the end of the quarter. The offense picked up a bit in the second quarter and Benton led 24-21 at the half.
A fire was reported Friday morning at the former home of a man recently found not guilty of the murders of two brothers in the Sardis community.
Firefighters and Saline County sheriffâ€™s deputies responded to 9800 Hogue Road for a report of a residence on fire.
Clinton Dewitt Spann Jr. lived at this home, but he is not residing there now, said Lt. Scott Courtney, Saline County Sheriffâ€™s Office spokesperson.
During a Circuit Court trial earlier this month, Spann was found not guilty of murdering brothers Michael Williams and Donald Williams, who lived near Spann.
