Fr. Panthers dominate previously unbeaten

BENTON – The Benton Freshman Panthers had lost it’s three previous games before undefeated Conway Blue came to Panther Stadium on Thursday night. Benton responded to the 5-0 Blue team in a big way, not allowing Conway a first down all game in a 24-7 victory to improve the Fr. Panthers to 3-3 overall and 2-3 in the Central Arkansas Junior High Conference.

Lady Panthers win again

BENTON – The Benton Lady Panthers improved to 16-2 overall and 10-0 in the 7A/6A South conference with another sweep of a conference opponent on Thursday at Benton Arena. The Lady Panthers defeated Texarkana 3-0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-14) and have swept every South opponent this season.

Freshman Eoff boiling at Purdue

BENTON – To say Austin Eoff is having success his freshman season so far as a Purdue Boilermaker would be an understatement. Eoff, a four-time All-State selection and three-time individual state champion for the Benton Panthers, has taken the Boilermakers by storm this season. Eoff has led Purdue in all three events this season, giving the Boilermakers no worse than a fourth-place finish.

Panthers take 4th in South

MOUNTAIN HOME – The Benton Panther golf team finished 8th out of 12 teams, shooting a 358, just four strokes from qualifying as a team in the 6A State round two today in the State Tournament at the par-72 Big Creek Golf and Country Club in Mountain Home on Monday. Benton finished fourth in the South.
“This is some tough competition,” Benton Coach David Torres said. “It’s a wide-open, beautiful course. It’s well taken care of and the greens are well-groomed. It’s just the toughness of it; tough pin placement. This week, your putter was everything. Each green had two or three tiers.”

Lady Panthers sweep again

BRYANT – The Benton Lady Panthers picked up where they left off the last time they faced their county and 7A/6A South conference rival Bryant Hornets on Tuesday. The Lady Panthers swept the Lady Hornets for the second straight match, taking the match 3-0 (25-11, 25-20, 25-8) in Bryant.

RUSSELLVILLE – At the Russellville Cyclone cross country invitational Saturday, the Bryant Lady Hornets put six runners in the top 15 places, including Melinda Murdock’s individual victory, to win the team championship.  Bryant scored 35 points to dominate the field of 13 teams.  Mt. St. Mary took runner-up with 63 points followed by LR Christian (87), Heber Springs (120), Conway (144), and Russellville (166).  There were 143 indivdual finishers in the race.  This makes two team championships on the year for Bryant who took the OBU title earlier in the season.

Remembering Salt Bowls past

No other football game has this type of atmosphere that the Salt Bowl has. This game is about friends who become foes for one day out of the year and then after the games are over, past bitter rivals enjoy a lifetime of friendships. I have had the opportunity to talk to many participants of past Salt Bowls and this article is a result of their input concerning the Salt Bowl rivalry.

Jr. Ladies win 1st conf. match

CABOT – The Benton Junior Lady Panther volleyball team went to Cabot to play the South team and came away with their first conference victory of the season on Monday night. Benton beat Cabot South in close sets, losing the first 25-27 before taking the next two 25-18 and 15-13.
It was the Jr. Lady Panthers' first close win of the year and Benton's first three-set win. Emme Edmondson had eight kills, Lenzie Newman seven and Sydney Channel had five for a well-rounded attack. 

Bryant wins in NLR, Benton takes 2nd

NORTH LITTLE ROCK – The Bryant and Benton boys’ golf teams came in first and second respectively at Emerald Golf Course in North Little Rock on Monday. Bryant Junior Luke Brantley and sophomore Drew Castleberry each shot a 1-under 34 at the par-35 nine-hole golf course to take the overall medalist and lead Bryant to a 104 for the win.
Benton took second with a 108, while Maumelle (137), Pulaski Robinson (146), Little Rock Parkview (150) and Jacksonville (172) rounded out the rest.

Lady Hornets compete well

RUSSELLVILLE – The Bryant Lady Hornets went 2-4 in the Cyclone Invitational in Russellville on Saturday. Starting out with a familiar 7A/6A South conference foe J.A. Fair, Bryant swept them 25-8 and 25-5 before running into fellow 7A school Mount Saint Mary in the next match, falling to the Belles 18-25 and 13-25.
