October 10, 2012

The Benton Lady Panthers were down 24-16 to the Texarkana Lady Razorbacks in the first set of their match Tuesday night in 7A/6A South conference play at Benton Arena. The Lady Panthers would not lose the first set scoring the last 10 points of the match to win it 26-24 and propel them to a 3-0 sweep of Texarkana. After the first set, the Lady Panthers used their momentum to take the next two 25-15 and 25-19.
"That's the crazy thing about volleyball, the momentum can switch just like that," Benton Coach Brandy Chumley said snapping her fingers.

Not the season you expected? Me neither

October 4, 2012

Isn’t all of this getting a little ridiculous Hog fans? Have we not suffered enough? Of course not, because we are Razorbacks’ fans. We’re used to this stuff, right? I know I’m not surprised. Well, maybe I expected a better start to the season after finishing as the No. 5 team in the nation last year losing to the two best teams in the country, and started this season ranked No. 10, and with John L. Smith aside, Arkansas was no doubt overrated.

“I’m proud of the girls,” Bryant Coach Beth Solomon said of her team. “We played better than the last time we played them; as far as not playing down and trying to stay at our level.”

Briggs takes Cardinals on the road, Benton at home

September 27, 2012

Week 4 of the high school football season was the first clear week from the rain and lightning. After Hurricane Isaac dropped many inches of rain in Week 1 and carried over into Weeks 2 and 3, many games were canceled or called early throughout the state. As for last week, the Saline County area teams did not fare too well. Bryant beat Benton for the seventh straight time in Salt Bowl XIII, 55-21. Glen Rose won big over Harmony Grove, 48-21 and Bauxite and Sheridan fell in their conference openers. The loss for Bauxite marked the 13th straight, dating back to last season.
