From Benton to Thailand

BENTON – Graduating from Benton High School in 2001, Jeau Kung now works on the other side of the world. Kung is a Muay Thai fighter and trainer at the historic Fairtex Muay Thai Fitness Camps and he is currently training at the camp in Pattaya, Thailand. Kung was in Benton recently and spoke with the Courier about his life in another country.

“It’s really fun going over there fighting and training,” Kung said. “Just being at the Fairtex camp, and on top of that, you’re going to the mecca of standup.”

Black Sox fare well, miss finals by out

OMAHA, Neb. – After defeating Longmont, Colo., in their first game in the Battle of Omaha Under-19 American Legion baseball tournament in Omaha, Neb., the Bryant Black Sox won four more games in the tournament before suffering their first loss of the season 4-3 to Pinnacle, Papillion, Neb. After the Longmont win, Bryant won 9-1 over Lincoln Pius, 5-2 over Branson, Mo., 6-2 over Montana, and 5-2 over Hays, Kan.

South Carolina beats Arkansas 2-0 on 3-hitter

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Lefty see, lefty do.
Hours after he watched senior left-hander Michael Roth's two-hitter against Kent State keep South Carolina's season alive, freshman lefty Jordan Montgomery did his best imitation of the Gamecocks' undisputed team leader when he got his turn against Arkansas on Thursday night.
Montgomery held the Razorbacks to three singles over eight innings, and the two-time defending national champions won 2-0 to force a rematch Friday night that will decide which team goes to the best-of-three College World Series finals against Arizona.

BRYANT – Former Bryant Hornet dual-threat player Tyler Nelson isn’t taking his skills far from home when he goes to the next level. Nelson signed a letter of intent to play baseball for the Arkansas Baptist Buffaloes in Little Rock in front of friends and family at the Bryant High School baseball office on Tuesday.

OMAHA, Neb. - Pitching a combined four-hit masterpiece, Razorbacks Ryne Stanek and Barrett Astin achieved a 2-1 victory Monday night over defending national champion and SEC rival South Carolina thrusting Arkansas alone in the winner's bracket of its College World Series Bracket 1 at TD Ameritrade Park.
With its 8-1 victory over Kent State last Saturday and 2-1 triumph Monday, Arkansas advances 2-0 to Thursday night's winner's bracket game against Wednesday's loser's bracket winner between South Carolina and Kent State.

Sox survive in extras

CONWAY – The Bryant Black Sox Senior American Legion baseball team tied the first game of a doubleheader against the Fort Smith Kerwins 4-4 in the seventh and last inning, but it took the Sox five more innings to come away with a 5-4 12-inning victory on relief pitcher Tryce Schacilin’s single to score Tyler Nelson from third on Thursday night at Bear Stadium on the University of Central Arkansas campus in Conway. The Black Sox handled the Kerwins in the second game 11-4.

BRYANT – The Bryant Sport Shop Black Sox Jr. team gave up two hits in defeating Hot Springs Village 5-2 on Wednesday night in Bryant.

“It was a good win,” Bryant Coach Tyler Pickett said. “We didn’t look as sharp as we have been. I think that had to do with the long weekend.”

OMAHOGS: Hogs advance to CWS

WACO, Texas — Jake Wise and Colby Suggs were at the bottom of the pile of Arkansas players in the middle of the infield and enjoying every second of it.

The Razorbacks are headed to the College World Series.
Wise, a sophomore catcher who had entered the game as a defensive replacement, had a two-out RBI single in the top of the 10th and Suggs threw the final two innings in Arkansas’ 1-0 victory over Baylor in the deciding game of their super regional Monday night.

Sox sweep DH from Express

LITTLE ROCK – The Bryant Senior Black Sox American Legion baseball team went to Little Rock to face the Express and came away with two 6-1 decisions in a doubleheader played at the University of Arkansas Little Rock’s Gary Hogan Field on Tuesday night. The two wins pushed the Black Sox record to 5-0 on the season.
