Lady Panthers fight back for win

The Benton Lady Panthers' varsity volleyball team had an exhausting match against Mena at Benton Arena on Tuesday, while the Lady Panthers' junior varsity squad eased to victory defeating Mena's JV 2-0 (25-16, 25-12). Benton's varsity actually lost the first two sets 19-25 and 20-25 before fighting back to win the last three games in close fashion taking the match 3-2, winning 26-24, 25-21 and 16-14.

Parker: New game time is not a problem

The Harmony Grove Cardinals, along with every other team in the county, are set to kick off their season this week. There is only one problem, the Cardinals will not being playing on Friday night.
While Hurricane Isaac pounds southern Louisiana, he is also expected to effect Arkansas in a big way. The Cardinals have been forced to move their game to today, rather than Friday when they play host to the Poyen Indians.

Glen Rose, Malvern reaady for each other in Week 1

The Glen Rose Beavers find themselves in a different but exciting situation to start the 2012 season. With Benton and Bryant playing in the same conference this season, and not playing the Salt Bowl until week four, the Beavers now take part in the biggest game of Week 1. With in-county rival Malvern coming into Glen Rose on Friday, the Beavers kick off the season with bragging rights on the line.

Panthers give it away

A golden opportunity for the Benton Panthers to begin the 2012 season with a win was literally given away Tuesday evening at War Memorial Stadium. The Panthers fell 42-28 to Class 4A member Arkadelphia in the First Security Kickoff Classic.
Five turnovers and an unusual two-play drive in the fourth quarter doomed the Panthers. Arkadelphia scored the game’s final 22 points to seal the win.

Bryant falls to Conway

The Bryant Lady Hornets’ volleyball team hooked up with an old conference foe on Tuesday. The Lady Hornets played the Conway Lady Wampus Cats in Conway, but Bryant came out on the losing end, falling 3-1 (18-25, 25-21, 19-25, 19-25). The Lady Hornets had won the second set to tie the match at 1-1 and were up 15-9 before the Lady Cats came roaring back to win.

It is pretty easy to say that the Benton Panthers have been anything but good during the football season over the past few years. After winning three games in each of the last two seasons, Benton has been battling injury after injury, day after day. To add insult to injury, the Panthers were forced to give up its three wins from the 2010 campaign after eligibility issues arose.

Lady Hornets defeat Cobras

BRYANT – They weren't sharp, but the Bryant Lady Hornets remained undefeated in their second match of the season. The Lady Hornets beat the Fountain Lake Lady Cobras 3-1 (25-23, 25-19, 17-25, 26-24) on Thursday night at the Bryant gym.
"A win's a win," Bryant Coach Beth Solomon said. "We didn't play as good as we could have. Overall, we had some key players that were not on last night.

Hornets win again; Girls fall but then get back on top

Both of the 2012 Bryant High School golf teams have started the year strong. Coming into Monday, the boys already had two first-place finishes under their belt to go with two fourth places. On Monday, the Hornets added another top finish to their stats when they played a dual tournament with Conway on the road.

Jr. Panthers win big over Lakeside

The Benton Junior High Panthers got off to a stellar start Thursday night at C.W. Lewis Stadium with wins over the Hot Springs Lakeside Rams. The Freshmen Panthers won 28-6 while the eighth graders won 20-6.
Brinson Williams intercepted a Lakeside pass on the Rams' first possession. On the ensuing play, Grayson Morrow made a diving catch in the end zone for the Panther touchdown. Williams kicked the first of his four PAT’s, giving the Panthers a 7-0 lead.

Lady Panthers swept to start season

It was a rough start to the season for last year’s 6A South Conference champions. The 6A South Benton Lady Panthers’ volleyball team went up against last year’s 7A Central Conference champion Conway Lady Wampus Cats and came out on the wrong end of a sweep. The Lady Panthers fell 0-3 (16-25, 16-25, 7-25) as they made too many errors against a powerhouse.
