Lady Hornets take care of business

BRYANT – The Bryant Lady Hornets had no problem in dispensing the Little Rock Central Lady Tigers with a 10-0 victory in 7A Central conference action on Thursday in Bryant. The win put the Lady Hornets’ streak at 28 wins in a row, dating from last season. Bryant is now 25-0 overall and 8-0 in the 7A Central on the season.

Despite a long layoff, the Lady Hornets, two-time defending state champions, did what they do best – win.

Lady Cardinals rally back

HASKELL - The Harmony Grove Lady Cardinals had a bumpy road through the weekend with three losses, snapping a healthy winning streak. On Monday, the pot holes got bigger as the Lady Cardinals lost their first conference game of the season 2-1 to Fountain Lake, the worst team in the 3A South.

After being down 4-0 early on Tuesday against Bismarck, a team that beat them early in the season, the Lady Cardinals used every bit of fight and heart to battle back for the one run, 5-4 victory.

Panthers win 10th straight

PEARCY – The Benton Panthers made it 10 wins in a row when they traveled to Lake Hamilton and took down the Wolves 9-6 in 6A South conference play on Wednesday. The Panthers outhit the Wolves 14-8.

“We had a good win,” Benton Coach Mark Balisterri said. “It was the first time we beat Lake Hamilton in six games. Basically it was the first time in three years that we beat them. It was a big win for us.”

Freshman pitcher shuts out Miners

BAUXITE – Lack of defense and hitting led to a 6-0 Bauxite Miners loss to the Benton Freshmen Panthers on Monday in Bauxite. Bauxite Coach Michael Mattox summed up his team’s performance.

“Six errors,” he started. “Six errors on the field; six runs. At some point they correlate. It’s the story of our past couple weeks.”

Freshmen Panthers starter Jared Barker had something to with the Miners lack of hitting as he pitched five and two-third shutout innings giving up just one hit. Barker walked three and struck out two in 80 pitches.

McClain powers Cards to win

HASKELL – For the Harmony Grove Cardinals, wins have been few and far between. It was March 28 when the Cardinals last found themselves in the win column with a 5-2 victory over 3A South conference favorite and arch rival Glen Rose. Since that time, the Cardinals have lost seven straight including a loss to conference foe Fountain Lake on Monday, 6-4.

Still Rolling: Bryant makes it 27 in a row

FARMINGTON, Ark. - The Bryant Lady Hornets won their 26th and 27th consecutive games dating to last year when they traveled to Farmington to play two against Mansfield and Farmington on Saturday. Bryant defeated the Mansfield Lady Tigers 14-2 and beat the Farmington Lady Cardinals 7-2 to improve their undefeated season to 24-0 overall and 7-0 in the 7A Central conference.

Benton has streak snapped in tourney

BEEBE - The Benton Lady Panthers strolled into Saturday’s Beebe Tournament riding an 18 game winning streak and looking to tack on even more to their already successful season.

WIth a pitching dual brewing through the first three innings, both Benton and Westside Jonesboro combined for three hits and two walks before the low scoring affair finally got it’s first run in the fourth.

Errors ruin Bauxite's chances

DEQUEEN – The Bauxite Miners dropped a 6-5 decision to the DeQueen Leopards on Friday night in 7-4A conference play in DeQueen.

Down 6-2 going into the seventh inning, the Miners (8-10, 2-4 7-4A) scored three runs in the top of the seventh, but fell just short.

“We had the tying run at second and the winning run at first,” Bauxite Coach Michael Mattox said of the last inning. “We had the double steal on, and on the same pitch, we struck out to end the game. We were hoping for a throw there to see what happened, but we didn’t get one.”

Pitching duel gives Panthers 9th in a row

PINE BLUFF – The Benton Panthers traveled to Pine Bluff expecting to score some runs, but instead got a pitching duel on Friday night against the Zebras in 6A South conference action. The Panthers came away with a 1-0 win over Pine Bluff to improve to 16-4 overall and 7-1 in the 6A South. It was the Panthers ninth consecutive win.

“It was crazy,” Benton Coach Mark Balisterri said.

Lady Hornets win 25th straight

NORTH LITTLE ROCK – The defending state champion Bryant Lady Hornets ran their winning streak to 25 games, dating to last year, with an 8-1 7A Central conference victory over the North Little Rock Lady Cats on Friday at Lady Cat Field at Burns Park in North Little Rock.

“Big conference win,” Bryant Coach Debbie Clark said. “It’s my first time as [Bryant’s] coach to beat [North Little Rock] here. It’s a big coaching win for me. I told them thank you. They didn’t know that before the game, but that was big for me.”
