Lady Panthers push streak to 10

BENTON - Saline County is home to one of the hottest high school softball teams in the state so far this season. The Benton Lady Panthers are now 10-1 and are riding a 10-game winning streak after a dazzling performance against Sheridan, winning 7-1 on Thursday.

Hornets not sharp, but beat Rockets

BRYANT – The Bryant Hornets hosted the Little Rock Catholic Rockets in 7A Central conference play on Tuesday and came away with a 4-1 victory.

The Hornets (12-2, 2-1 7A Central) scored all four of their runs in the second inning with two outs. Senior Dylan Cross singled to start the inning and went to second base on sophomore Wesley Akers’ walk. After sophomore Chase Tucker struck out, junior Hayden Daniel grounded into a fielder’s choice to third base, who stepped on the bag to put runners on first and second.

Reddies get another Lady Hornet

BRYANT – Bryant senior distance runner Skylar Oswalt joined teammates Ashlyn Lessenberry and Stacy Emmerling to run cross country at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia when she signed a letter of intent Wednesday morning at the Bryant Gym. According to cross country Coach Danny Westbrook, Henderson may need to change their mascot.

“This is the third signing with Henderson State with Ashyln Lessenberry and Stacy Emmerling,” Westbrook said. “The Lady Reddies are going to have to change their mascot to the Lady Hornets. We’re soon going to have our team down there.”

Power and Pitching: Lady Hornets hit three home runs and throw no-hitter

BRYANT – The Bryant Lady Hornets got a no-hitter from senior pitcher Peyton Jenkins, two home runs from sophomore Kaley Coppock and continued their undefeated season getting a 10-0 victory over the Mount Saint Mary’s Belles in 7A Central action on Tuesday at Lady Hornets Field.

“We did what we were supposed to,” Bryant Coach Debbie Clark said. “This is a game that we should win. I told the girls after spring break that this is a game we have to come in and take care of business. Those are the games as a coach that you kind of get worried about, but the girls came and did their jobs.”

Lady Cardinals' win streak to four

HASKELL – The Harmony Grove Lady Cardinals’ softball team continued their winning ways following spring break on Monday and Tuesday. On Monday, the Lady Cardinals opened up their conference season with a rout over Glen Rose, 10-3. Tuesday was a litter tougher when Harmony Grove met up against Perryville for a 1-0 win at home.

Errors, missed chances lose it for Bauxite

NORTH LITTLE ROCK – The Bauxite Lady Miners were up 7-1 going into the bottom of the sixth inning, but errors and missed opportunities led to an 8-7 extra-inning loss to the Robinson Lady Senators on Monday at Burns Park in North Little Rock to start 7-4A conference play.

“You probably can’t print what I have to say,” Bauxite Coach Wes Mode said wryly. “It was Glen Rose all over again. We just can’t finish. We can’t deal with success, and yet we can’t handle adversity either. It’s kind of strange.”

Cardinals upset conference favorite Beavers

GLEN ROSE - The Harmony Grove Cardinals’ season has been everything but good so far this year. Coming off of a spring break road trip where they went 1-3 did not help the matter much either. With the conference season starting back up, the Cardinals had a lot on their plate as they headed in to Glen Rose to face one of the top teams in 3A this season.

With the odds stacked against them, the Cardinals played arguably the best game of the year as they used a strong offensive attack with an almost flawless defense to down the Beavers 5-2, picking up their first conference win of the season.

Hornets take 3rd in Florida

SANFORD, Fla. – After starting the Florida High School Invitational with a loss to American Heritage High School in Sanford, Fla., the Bryant Hornets won their next three games, including a 7-6 extra-inning win against the New Smyrna Barracudas on Saturday. The last win gave the Hornets third place in the invitational.

Panthers drop to Sylvan Hills in semis

The Benton Panthers used stellar defense and hot bats to reach the semifinals of the Central Arkansas Invitational on Friday night against Sylvan Hills. The Panthers battled past CAC on Thursday, 2-0, before beating Vilonia 10-4 early on Friday.

With the momentum in their favor and playing on their home field, the Panthers could not keep up the good work as they fell 6-3 to Sylvan Hills.

Panthers win in first round

BENTON - The Benton Panthers came into the Central Arkansas Invitational on Thursday looking for a win after falling in their last contest against Lake Hamilton 4-2. With their bats struggling, Benton looked to turned things around at home against Central Arkansas Christian.

Though their bats were no hot, or even warm, the Panthers got past the Mustangs 2-0 behind stellar defense once again.
