Lady Hornets defeat Searcy in TOC final

NORTH LITTLE ROCK – The Bryant Lady Hornets had no trouble in the Tournament of Champions held at Burns Park in North Little Rock, outscoring their opponents 38-1 and defeating Searcy 16-1 in the championship game on Saturday night. After getting warmed up in an 8-0 win against Hope in the first round, the Lady Hornets beat Foreman 14-0 before the Searcy win.

Franklin one-hits Lake Hamilton in 10-0 rout

BENTON – The Benton Lady Panthers softball team has hit a bit of a hot streak as of late. After falling in the season opener to Bryant, the Lady Panthers have won eight straight games, including a 10-0 shutout victory over Lake Hamilton on Friday to open conference play.

Pitching duel ends with Miners' win

HASKELL – Neither team gave up a hit until the sixth inning, but the Bauxite Miners came out on top of the Harmony Grove Cardinals 6-2 on Friday night at Harmony Grove. It was tied 1-1 going into the seventh inning, but the Miners finally got to Cardinals’ senior starter Bodie Harris.

“We just had a different approach,” Bauxite Coach Michael Mattox said. “I’m not sure we solved him, we just had a better approach to stop swinging at high pitches and low pitches, waited for a good a good pitch and just drove it.

Harmony Grove bests Bauxite

HASKELL – The Harmony Grove Lady Cardinals held the Bauxite Lady Miners to three hits on their way to a 10-0 five-inning victory on Friday at Harmony Grove.

The Lady Cardinals (6-2) scored one run in the second inning and two in the third before breaking the game open in the fourth inning with six runs.

“[The Lady Cardinals] did some things I’ve been looking for them to do all season,” Harmony Grove Coach Sammie Massey said. “I was very pleased. They hit the ball well and played good defense. Overall, I thought we played well.”

Lady Hornets dominate in Central opener

The Bryant Lady Hornets had no trouble in their first 7A Central conference matchup on the year defeating the Little Rock Central Lady Tigers 14-0 in five innings on Thursday night at Interstate Park in Little Rock.

“We did what I wanted to – came in scored runs and made some great defensive plays,” Bryant Coach Debbie Clark said. “Peyton [Jenkins] did a good job.

Bryant needs 10 to win

The Bryant Hornets were down by four runs at one point, but battled back for a 5-4 victory in 10 innings over the North Little Rock Charging Wildcats on Tuesday in Bryant to start the 7A Central conference season. Two Wildcat errors in the bottom of the 10th led to the win.

Hornets’ senior Josh Pultro reached on an error by the third baseman when the fielder threw it away allowing Pultro to take second base.

Miners pick up win on pick off

The Bauxite Miners had a three-run lead going into the last inning and held on to defeat the Magnet Cove Panthers 3-2 in non-conference action on Monday night in Bauxite.

“We went into the top of the seventh 3-0 and [Magnet Cove] scratched and clawed back into it,” Bauxite Coach Michael Mattox said. “We walked a couple guys, they got a couple hits here and there. They had the tying run at third base with one out.”

Two innings seal Lady Miners' fate

It was a rough couple of innings for the Bauxite Lady Miners softball team as they gave up six runs apiece in the second and third innings in their 12-1 loss to the Magnent Cove Lady Panthers on Tuesday in Bauxite. Senior Bauxite pitcher Bethany Edwards retired the side in order on four pitches in the first inning, but errors and mental lapses by the Lady Miners led to 34 pitches each in the next two innings.

Benton needs extra innings

BENTON – The Benton Lady Panthers softball team continued their dominance on Tuesday when they welcomed the Nashville Lady Scrappers into Lady Panther Park. The Lady Panthers beat Nashville 7-0 in the Bootsie Gordon Tournament on Saturday, on their way to winning the tournament.

Tuesday was a much harder contest for Benton, but the Lady Panthers did prevail at the end winning 2-1 in the eighth inning.

Starting pitcher Lauren White allowed a hit to Nashville in the first, but was able to escape unscathed after forcing a ground out and getting a strikeout to end the inning.

Benton explodes on Greenbrier, wins tournament with ease

BENTON – The Lady Panthers did something Saturday that no other Benton High School softball team had completed in a very long time. After getting past Springdale Harber in the first round of the Bootsie Gordon Tournament in Benton, the Lady Panthers beat Dardanelle 6-0 and Nashville 7-0 to advance to the finals against Greenbrier. After a crazy homerun call early in the game, the Lady Panthers prevailed to beat Greenbrier 12-2 to become tournament champions.
