BENTON â€“ The Benton Lady Panthers softball team continued their dominance on Tuesday when they welcomed the Nashville Lady Scrappers into Lady Panther Park. The Lady Panthers beat Nashville 7-0 in the Bootsie Gordon Tournament on Saturday, on their way to winning the tournament.
Tuesday was a much harder contest for Benton, but the Lady Panthers did prevail at the end winning 2-1 in the eighth inning.
Starting pitcher Lauren White allowed a hit to Nashville in the first, but was able to escape unscathed after forcing a ground out and getting a strikeout to end the inning.
BENTON â€“ The Lady Panthers did something Saturday that no other Benton High School softball team had completed in a very long time. After getting past Springdale Harber in the first round of the Bootsie Gordon Tournament in Benton, the Lady Panthers beat Dardanelle 6-0 and Nashville 7-0 to advance to the finals against Greenbrier. After a crazy homerun call early in the game, the Lady Panthers prevailed to beat Greenbrier 12-2 to become tournament champions.
BENTON - It was a scoreless game through four innings, but the Benton Panthers came away with a 5-0 victory over the Monticello Billies Friday night in Benton. Junior left-handed started Justin Vincent gave up one hit, a double in the second inning, and retired the last 13 batters he faced. The Panthers retired the last 16 batters of the game.
â€śHe did a great job,â€ť Benton Coach Mark Balisterri said of Vincent.
BAUXITE - The Harmony Grove Lady Cardinals softball team continued their season in the opening round of the Bauxite FCA Invitational on Wednesday when they took on Robinson. After jumping out to a decent lead, Robinson tied the game late before allowing Harmony Grove to take the lead and win 5-3 on a walk-off.
Starting Lady Cardinals pitcher Kristen Dempsey sat down the first two Robinson hitters via the grounder and a strikeout before allowing the third to reach on a walk. That was all the damage that Robinson could do as Dempsey sat down the final hitter on another ground out.
BAUXITE â€“ After splitting a doubleheader with Poyen over the weekend, the Bauxite Miners picked up a 7-5 opening-round win in the FCA Tournament over the St. Josephâ€™s Bulldogs of Conway on Wednesday in Bauxite.

LITTLE ROCK â€“ Itâ€™s not every day that a first-ballot baseball Hall-of Famer visits your state to talk about old times, but thatâ€™s what happened this past Friday evening at the Clinton Library in Little Rock. St. Louis Cardinals great and National League all-time stolen base leader Lou Brock opened the Clinton Libraryâ€™s St. Louis Cardinals exhibit which officially opened on Saturday. The exhibit is called Play Ball! The St. Louis Cardinals and features the 2006 and 2011 World Series trophies among a variety of other vintage Cardinalsâ€™ memorabilia, and runs through Sept. 16.
BAUXITE â€“ The Bauxite Lady Miners softball team came close to having a perfect opening week of the season, but the Glen Rose Lady Beavers made sure that didnâ€™t happen. With the Lady Miners up 7-1 after the fourth inning, Glen Rose came back to defeat Bauxite 9-7 in extra innings last Monday in Bauxite. Bauxite took the next two games of the week with ease, defeating Mayflower 15-2 on Tuesday and shutting out Poyen 10-0 on Friday.
BENTON - The Benton Lady Panthers softball team collected their first win of the season on Friday, beating up on Watson Chapel 10-0 in five innings. The Lady Panthers fell in their first contest of the year against Bryant 2-1 on Tuesday night.
Starting pitcher Lauren White started the game with a little bit of control problems, walking the Lady Wildcats first batter on five pitches. White quickly settled into her groove, striking out the next two batters.
Lady Panthers catcher Amanda Jones threw the runner out at second trying to steal for the innings first out.
The Bauxite Miners baseball team opened the 2012 season this past week and started the year off right with a 3-2 victory over the Glen Rose Beavers on Monday at Bauxite.
Led by the pitching of senior Ryan Weng, the Miners played stellar defense behind him to get the victory.
â€śMonday, our defense and pitching showed out,â€ť Bauxite Coach Michael Mattox said. â€śItâ€™s the best defensive game Iâ€™ve coached at Bauxite. We made every play. We had a 74-pitch complete game from our pitcher. We couldnâ€™t ask for a better game.â€ť
LITTLE ROCK â€“ With 30 Arkansas High School swim teams participating in the Arkansas State High School Swim/Dive Championships at UALR on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24 and 25, the Bryant Hornet Girls swim team finished the meet No. 3 in the state.
â€śThis is the best finish in the State Meet for a Lady Hornet Swim Team,â€ť said Coach Angel Dale. â€śI am extremely proud of the third-place finish for the girlsâ€™ team. The girls brought home a medal in every event they swam except for the 400 relay.â€ť said Dale.
