Sheridan has a tough road ahead; faces Lake Hamilton

The Sheridan Yellowjackets escaped the White Hall Bulldogs with a 13-8 win last week and it was the first time in 25 years that they picked up a victory in White Hall. Sheridan hits the road to Lake Hamilton to take on the Wolves this Friday in their first 6A South conference game.
The Yellowjackets are also 2-1 for the first time in a while according to Sheridan Coach Louis Campbell.
“And to think we gave the first one away … well I won’t go there and ruin the mood!” Campbell said on www.sheridanfootball.com.

Bryant Hornets golf nipped by Panthers

Both the Bryant boys and girl’s golf teams placed second on Tuesday at Hurricane Creek Country Club. Cabot took first for both boys and girls, edging the Hornets by one shot, while North Little Rock brought up the rear.
The Hornets shot a 151, led by junior Tyler Green’s 1-under 35. Green started off at 2-under before bogeying the fourth hole. He finished with three birdies and two bogeys.
Junior Austin Harmon shot a 1-over 37 including an eagle on the par-5 eighth hole, freshman Nick Canale shot a 3-over 39, and junior Aston Green shot a 40. Sophomore Chase Thornton added a 42.

Lady Hornet tennis team picks up wins over Van Buren

The Bryant Lady Hornets won three out of their four varsity matches, defeating Van Buren last Thursday at Rebsamen Tennis Center in Little Rock. The boys team lost both their singles and doubles matches.
Lady Hornets senior Callie Hogancamp defeated Brittney Yeamons 8-6 in Girls 1 singles and sophomore Whitney Butler beat Logan Moore 8-4 in Girls 2 singles for the singles’ sweep.
“Callie Hogancamp got back on the winning track and Whitney won her second conference match of the three so far,” Bryant Coach Steve Wilson said.

Karate for Christ has biggest turnout yet

The 2011 Karate for Christ tournament took place this past Saturday at The Centers at Bishop Park and it had its biggest turn out yet in its third year of existence in Arkansas. With about 150 entrants on one gym floor last year, this year’s event brought closer to 300 competitors from five states.

Sheridan beats White Hall for second win

The Sheridan Yellowjackets went down to White Hall and hung on for a win, defeating the Bulldogs 13-8. The Yellowjackets gave up 363 total yards to the Bulldogs in the low-scoring game, but was plus six in the turnover department, including four turnovers on downs, to take the victory.
“It was ugly, but it was a win,” Sheridan Coach Louis Campbell said. “That’s all that counts. “

Bryant golf playing better

The Bryant Hornets took first place scoring a 154 at Hurricane Country Club, while the Lady Hornets scored a 139, coming in last on Thursday. Cabot shot a 161 for second and Lake Hamilton came in third with a 165. North Little Rock didn’t field four golfers, so they did not qualify for a score.
Bryant junior Tyler Green shot a 4-under 32 to lead the Hornets to victory. Green started the round with three consecutive birdies and finished with five for the round. He had one bogey on the par-3 sixth hole, but was very good other than that.

Benton edges Texarkana 3-2

On Sept. 8, after their win over Lake Hamilton, Benton coach Brandy Chumley said sometimes the Lady Panthers like to put themselves into holes just so they can get themselves out of it.
Well, against Texarkana on Thursday, the Benton Lady Panthers volleyball team found themselves in one giant hole, trailing 2-1 to the Lady Razorbacks at home.

MSM, Catholic beat Bryant tennis

The Bryant Hornets and Lady Hornets’ tennis team had a rough time with Mount St. Mary’s Belles and the Little Rock Catholic Rockets on Tuesday at Rebsamen Tennis Center in Little Rock.
The Lady Hornets took home one win in singles’ play and were swept in doubles play, while the Hornets won just one set for the Boys’ 1 and 2 matches, getting swept in both singles and doubles play.
Sophomore Whitney Butler picked up Bryant’s only win, defeating Samantha Cook 8-3 in Girls 2 singles. Senior Callie Hogancamp lost to Mary Menz 4-8 in Girls 1 singles.

Benton tennis teams defeat El Dorado at home

The Benton Panther boys tennis team was able to win three out of five matches against El Dorado and Little Rock McClellan Tuesday night at Tyndall Park in Benton.
Benton senior Eric Emmons lost to El Dorado’s Taylor Thomas 6-8 and senior Austin Willis defeated Drew Hazen 8-5.
Sophomore Trey Young lost to El Dorado’s Lawson Smith 3-6 and freshman Morgan Smith defeated McClellan’s Justin Washington 8-5. Senior Nathan Perry defeated El Dorado’s Thomas 6-1.
“We had kind of a rough day,” coach Justin Warner said. “It was probably the roughest day we’ve had since the season started.”

Benton splits with Lake Hamilton

The Benton boys and girls golf team split with Lake Hamilton Tuesday as the Lady Panthers lost 133-131 and the Panthers defeated Lake Hamilton 294 to 318.
Grace Lile and Austin Eoff earned medalist with a score of 36 and 65 respectively.
“The girls are getting better and they are improving, its just not showing up in the results,” coach Chad Pitts said. “We are playing better golf, but the people we are playing are playing good too.”
Daphne Bono shot a 48, Kayla Payne shot a 49, Karli Lipinski 52, Drew Melton a 53, Jenna Jamison a 54, and Braxton Chumley a 57.
